The Imperial Treasure Bakery & Cafe at the 100AM Mall in Tanjong Pagar (next to Amara Hotel) has become So Good. It is not a case of great improvement of an already nice bakery but a change of name. We do not know if it is a rebranding exercise or a new owner has taken over the premises together with all the fittings including the menu board. You can see the photos in our earlier post Imperial Treasure Bakery & Cafe and compare them with photos of So Good Bakery in this post and play spot the difference.
So Good Bakery has a takeaway bakery section as well as a dine-in area. Except for a change of colour scheme, the decor looks the same as the old Imperial Treasure Bakery & Cafe at 100AM. Even the food they sell seems to be the same – cakes, tarts, polo buns and a variety of bread and pastries. Coffee, tea and fruit juices are available.
We bought a Hong Kong Char Siew Polo Bun ($2) and a Whole Wheat Buttermilk Bun ($1.60) to try.
The Hong Kong Char Siew Polo Bun had the signature cracked sugary crust on top. The bread was soft and fluffy and the char siew filling was quite good.
The Whole Wheat Buttermilk Bun was surprisingly good. It looked like a healthy nutty sort of bun. The Hongkong style cocktail bun filling, with ingredients which included which coconut shreds and sugar, was not too sweet. The dense filling had a rich, buttery flavour.
So Good Bakery & Cafe in 100AM Mall has an extensive list of cakes and pastries for takeaway – ranging from egg tarts and polo bun to chocolate truffle cake. It is also a nice spot for a cup of coffee and some light delightful snacks.
