Joël Robuchon has been collecting Michelin Stars all over the world and can boast of the only 3 Michelin Stars restaurant in Singapore. L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon is one of the five restaurants in Hong Kong awarded the maximum of 3 Michelin Stars. Located in Landmark Central, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Hong Kong serves French classics in a plush chic space. The dining experience there is a treat for the senses – a visual and culinary adventure.
There are Joël Robuchon salons in several locations in Hong Kong – including IFC Mall and Elements – and a Joël Robuchon cafe in Harbour City. In Landmark Central, Joël Robuchon has Le Salon de Thé de Joël Robuchon, L’Atelier and Le Jardin. Le Salon is a French tea salon offering a variety of sandwiches, pastries and cakes for dining-in and takeaway. There is also a wide selection of gourmet canapés to go with fine wine and other beverages. The Joël Robuchon restaurant is divided into two areas – L’Atelier and Le Jardin. L’Atelier is more casual; where diners sit at a bar overlooking a stylish show kitchen. Le Jardin offers contemporary fine dining in an elegant interior which looks out into a roof garden.
L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Hong Kong
The signature black and red theme of Joël Robuchon restaurants is evident even in the escalators leading up to L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Hong Kong. Once we arrived at the top of the escalators, we were warmly welcomed and led through a dimly lit passageway with a windowed cellar on one side.
The sleek show kitchen, with colourful food on display, takes centre stage in the restaurant. We were shown to the red seats at the bar counter where we could see the chefs, dressed in black of course, in action a mere few metres from us.
Menu of L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Hong Kong
The L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon offers various set menus for lunch and dinner. There is also a vegetarian menu. The a la carte menu offers a variety of contemporary French and fusion dishes. Below are photos of portions of the menus of L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon.
L’Atelier Le French Gourmay Menu 2018
We were at L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Hong Kong for dinner and opted for the 4-course Le French Gourmay Menu 2018 (HK$1,280+).
The bread basket presented looked great and the bread was delicious. We had to stop ourselves from enjoying too much of the bread.
Amuse Bouche
The Amuse Bouche came in a bowl in the shape of an avocado and the plate had a little sketch of an avocado. The chilled creamy avocado soup had a subtle mixture of flavours and was delightful.
Crab & Fish
The first course was king crab with fine ginger jelly and caviar in asparagus coulis. It was a treat for the eyes and the palate.
Next came the European seabass in Mediterranean broth. The light broth had herbal notes and was aromatic and flavourful. The fish fillet beneath the thin smooth wanton like skin had a combination of flavours and was tasty.
The Main Course
The main course was quail or beef, with a supplementary charge of HK$370 for the beef option.
The teppanyaki Kagoshima beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection and had the right amount of tenderness and fatty bits. It was good.
The free range quail with foie gras was the more interesting main course. The Robuchon’s iconic dish of caramelised quail, stuffed with foie gras and served with potato puree might not score well in the aesthetics segment but it was so delicious. The quail was juicy and tender and the foie gras inside had a buttery texture. The rich taste of the foie gras, slight gaminess of the quail meat and the sweetness of caramelised skin combined to give a most delectable dish. The quail with foie gras alone would make a trip to L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon worthwhile.
The Dessert & Petit Fours
The dessert looked too good to eat; though the combination of cherry and chocolate cream flavoured with fruit brandy was hard to resist.
Coffee and tea were offered and a tray of petit fours was served to round up a delightful meal.
L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Hong Kong is designed to make diners feel comfortable and relaxed so that they can enjoy their meal. The service was excellent and the atmosphere convivial. Delicious food, beautiful presentation, delightful ambience – a meal in the sleek and chic restaurant is a real treat for the senses.
