Sunset Way restaurants and cafes are part of a cluster of f & b outlets situated at the junction of Clementi Road and Sunset Way. There are two unique features about these places: they are mostly hidden from view, with no direct frontage to a public road; and they have indoor (air-conditioned) and outdoor (sheltered) seating. We discovered during a recent visit to the area that there has been quite a few changes in the make up of the Sunset Way restaurants – a few old ones are still there but there are many new places to eat.
Here is a compilation of Sunset Way restaurants (and a few other interesting places) during our visit. The information contained here are based on sources available at the time – please check current opening times, prices and promotions at the time of intended visit.
One of the challenges facing the operators of the Sunset Way restaurants is getting in the customers during lunch. There are not many residential units in the immediate vicinity and the outdoor areas can get quite hot, even with the awnings. We saw more signs of life during our recent visit during lunch time. Thicker awnings have been installed at some of the restaurants. The places are now darker but cooler than before. Another good development is the introduction of reasonable priced set lunch menus they are usually in the $10+ range which attracts working people to drive there from surrounding areas like Bukit Timah, Ulu Pandan and Buona Vista.
Pondok Pondok Rasa
Pondok Pondok Rasa is a Muslim restaurant next to the 7-11 store. It is the restaurant with road frontage facing Sunset Way.

Chin Huat Live Seafood
Chin Huat Seafood is probably the longest standing restaurant at Sunset Way. It is also an impressive restaurant. Look at the big tanks of live seafood. They are crowded on weekends. Here are pictures of a page from the a la carte menu and the $11.90 set lunch menu.
138 Nasi Lemak
138 Nasi Lemak was not open when we visited.
Lim’s Bistro is a large restaurant at Sunset Way. The beer promotions look interesting – $0.99 for beer with a food order!

Lina Satay Club
Next to Lim’s Bistro is Lina Satay Club. There is a menu on their Facebook page where the feedback is mostly positive.

Wondering further down the corridor, next to Lina Satay is a pub named Stickies.
The tagline of Stickies is a call to action : “Alchoholics Unite”! Judging from the stash of beer barrels, it seems that many responded.
The drinks list, promotions and food menu can be found on the Stickies Bar website.

Buttercake N Cream
A restaurant with quite a different personality lives next door to the Stickies Bar. The Buttercake N Cream describes itself as “a tasteful bistro designed for diners and dessert lovers. Hidden in the enclave of a tranquil ambience in sunset way since 2009...” It looks like a pleasant place to have lunch followed by cakes. They also have a $10.90++ set lunch.
You can find the Buttercake N Cream menu and more information on their website.
According to their website, Yassin Kampung is “a family restaurant with over 15 years experience serving Halal Asian Cuisine…“. Yassin Kampung Sunset Way is their third outlet, the other two are in Marsiling and Woodlands. Their menu is on the website. Here is a picture of a sample page from the menu.

Block 107 Food Park
In addition to the individual restaurants, there is a food centre at Sunset Way. It hosts many hawker stalls and one large zhi char restaurant that operates both at lunch time and in the evenings.
We cannot leave the Sunset Way area without mentioning the two large interesting non-restaurant places that may be of interest to our readers.
It is hard to find a supermarket like Grindelwald Supermarket. It is right next to the Food Park and is like a cross between a wet market and NTUC Fairprice. Next to it is a multi-storey carpark. Speaking of supermarket, there is also a Cold Storage 200m further up Sunset Way at Clementi Arcade where there are a few more places to eat.

Mount Pleasant Vet Clinic
There are a bunch of veterinary clinics in the area, of which Mount Pleasant Vet Clinic is the largest. There must be many pet owners in this region. Here is a picture of their opening hours.
