There are many new and fancy cafes in Singapore but sometimes the saying “old is gold” rings true. Caffé Beviamo in Tanglin Mall is seldom mentioned in social media or featured in the lists of trendy cafes to visit. However, this causal cafe which offers Australian-inspired food, desserts and beverages prepared with gluten-free, organic and/or preservative-free ingredients remains popular with the regulars for good reasons.
Located on Level 2 of Tanglin Mall, Caffé Beviamo has been around since 2000. It is starting to look its age but it still has that expat neighbourhood cafe ambience. Open from 9 am to 9 pm, Caffé Beviamo is a good old spot for regular meals, weekend brunch, family outing, high tea, after office drinking, healthy eating or just people watching.
Caffé Beviamo Menu
The menu of Caffé Beviamo is not extensive but offers sufficient variety. It has all day breakfast items, salads, pastas, pizzas, sandwiches and some light bites. Below are pictures of the menu when we visited the cafe recently.
Brunch at Caffé Beviamo
We had brunch at Caffé Beviamo on a recent weekend. We ordered Vanilla Rissoto ($7), Egg Mayo Salad ($5) and Banana Bread ($7). Coffee was $4 each. GST would be added to the bill but there was no service charge.
The coffee was presented on an individual tray with mini jugs of hot milk and hot water. It was a cup of good strong coffee.
The Vanilla Rissoto looked like simple comfort food. The rice pudding had a nice creamy texture and the toppings of stewed apple and cinnamon powder made the dish a luxurious treat. It was very enjoyable.
The Egg Mayo Salad had a right mix of ingredients and was a straightforward classic dish that hit the spot.
The most enjoyable dish of our brunch was the dull looking Banana Bread. Two slices of the banana bread came with a small slab of butter – not something likely to be featured in many Instagram feeds. The no frills banana loaf was nicely toasted and there was nothing ho-hum about the taste. It was flavourful on its own but with some butter it was simply delightful.
Good Old Cafe
Some cafes shout to the trendy set. Some cafes just whisper a relaxed charm. Caffé Beviamo in Tanglin Mall is in the latter category. There is nothing spectacular about the cafe but it delivers casual Australian dining in a prime spot at the edge of Orchard Road. Caffé Beviamo is a good old cafe – offering great coffee and unpretentious food that is enjoyable at reasonable prices. It is a gem hidden in plain sight.
