An affordable lunch at Orchard Road

Does a $7++ lunch in Orchard Road sound like a good deal?  Roast beef sandwich and designer cappuccino in a top location in the prestigious Paragon Orchard Mall, no less. This is a quick and short post to share with you our recent affordable lunch at Orchard Road.

We have written about 63Celsius in Orchard Road before and you can find more pictures and information in our previous post. Today, we focus on some of the lower cost alternatives that were on hand when we were there recently.

Some more affordable local desserts ($3 each) were on display. On days when all we want is a snack to go with coffee, that is all we need and not a fancy $12 piece of cake on their regular menu. We thought that the best deal available there was the coffee and sandwich set for $7++. Was there a catch? There was only one way to find out.

Here is a picture of the 63Celsius coffee and tea menu. Prices are fair for “artisanal coffee” in Orchard Road. Essentially that meant paying an extra $1.50 for a roast beef sandwich.

We were afraid that the sandwich might be some small, tasteless thing, thrown in to close the deal. But our fears were unfounded. The sandwich was very regular in size and taste. The bread was toasted but the fillings were cold – that was the only negative we can think of.  The meat was not gourmet beef, but acceptable.

We also ordered an item from the regular menu – 63Potato Rosti. Served with a poached egg, Shimeiji mushrooms, smoked Bacon it was a good simple dish with many flavours and textures.

Here is a bird’s-eye view of our affordable lunch at Orchard Road, Paragon Shopping Centre.  A simple pitstop to refresh in between errands in the city.
