Pancho Villa Hobart – Mexican restaurant and tequila bar (Tasmania)

Pancho Villa Hobart is a Mexican restaurant and tequila bar. Located in a restaurant filled area in North Hobart, it was a place to eat that was highly recommended to us by the locals. The decor of Pancho Villa looks like something out of the Adams Family residence.  It is very dark – the kind of place where we found it hard to read the menu. Candles (real and electric) provided the illumination. We felt that the figure in the large painting kept starting us. We forget what many restaurants look like soon after the visit.  But Pancho Villa’s interior is something we will remember for a long time.

Here are pictures of some pages from the Pancho Villa Hobart Menu. There were a couple of tasting menus at either A$50 or A$65 per person.  We decided to pick our own dishes.

We had two types of tacos – Taco Baja Fish (A$15) and Taco Chicken (A$16). Both tasted very good. The portion size was big. Two tacos were served for each order.

We noticed that octopus is a common item on menus during our recent trip to Hobart, Tasmania. We are not complaining as we like octopus. We ordered the Octopus Pork Belly (A$34) at Pancho Villa. The flavours of the dish were good, but I thought the octopus was small. I would have preferred thicker tentacles.

The Pork Belly Quesadilla (A$16) was not as fatty as it sounds. The pork filling was not very heavy or ‘porky’.  A good balanced quesadilla.

The BBQ Chicken (A$31) was well cooked with the outer surface nicely charred and the insides still moist. It was quite an expensive piece of chicken but it tasted good.

We had a side dish of chorizo potatoes (A$14). It probably contained more calories than we should be consuming but it was a nice comfort food to have on a cold Aussie night in winter.

Our final dish at Pancho Villa Hobart was a dessert called Churro Dulce de Leche (A$15) . It was an ice-cream sandwich made using churros at both ends.  You can’t go wrong with churros and ice-cream!
