In traditional Chinese culture, name reflects aspirations and it is believed that name may affect destiny. Asia Grand Restaurant in Odeon Towers may not be one of the outstanding restaurants of Asia but it has not done too badly for itself. It has endured the test of time and is one of those popular Cantonese restaurants that locals go to with their families.
Asia Grand Restaurant in Odeon Towers looks like a fairly typical mid-range Chinese restaurant. It is bright and cheerful and sufficiently elegant for a business lunch or a special family occasion. It seems like it is meant to accommodate big groups and families as most of the tables in the restaurant are big round tables. There are tables that can sit up to 15.
Menu of Asia Grand Restaurant
The Cantonese restaurant is well known for their dim sum and traditional dishes like Peking duck, roast suckling pig, bamboo clams and fish maw soup. The menu of Asia Grand Restaurant is extensive. Below are pictures of random pages of the a la carte menu and special recommendations and promotions.
Dinner at Asia Grand Restaurant
We went to Asia Grand Restaurant in Odeon Towers for dinner. We ordered Coffee Ribs ($24), Beancurd with Mushroom ($14) and Rice in Seafood Soup ($12). Chinese tea was charged at $3 per person and Pickles (appetizer automatically placed on the table) was $3.
The appetizer was quite unusual – small cubes of fish cakes and peppers drizzled with mango sauce. We enjoyed it.
The Coffee Ribs had a nice aroma. The meat was tender and the sauce had the taste of coffee and sweetness of condensed milk. It was nice but not particularly remarkable.
The Beancurd with Mushroom was an interesting dish. The tofu stuffed with minced mushrooms was set on a bed of poached vegetables and mushrooms, and topped with crabmeat sauce. There was a good combination of different flavours. It felt like a light healthy dish which was also delicious.
The best dish of the dinner was Rice in Seafood Soup. The soup had lots of ingredients including bits of crisp salted fish. The soup was very tasty. It was like good home-cooked comfort food – only more luxurious.
Fairly Priced Quality Food
Overall, it was a simple but fulfilling dinner. The quality of the food was generally a notch above average. Service was good and prices were fairly reasonable. We would happily eat at Asia Grand Restaurant again.
We would also mark it down for family dinners. Other than its big round tables, the restaurant’s name will certainly help to make it a popular choice to celebrate special occasions, especially if older folks are involved. For instance, if you are planning a birthday dinner for your mother-in-law, you may not want to pick a restaurant in Short Street or a restaurant with “Chop” as part of its name. However, you can’t go very wrong if you choose a restaurant with a name like Asia Grand.
