Smoke House at Platform M (Closed)

Smoke House at Platform M by MOF (Ministry of Food) is a new eatery in Singpost Centre. Platform M, the Old Tanjong Pagar Railway Station themed multi-restaurant food hall, features different F&B concepts including Ju Hao Xiao Long Bao, Yaki Ramen, Kazu Kazu, Cafe Mama and Matcha Story. The Hong Kong roast outlet at Platform M, Duck Master, has been replaced by a Western roast restaurant, Smoke House.

Smoke House is located right at the back of Platform M on level 2 of SingPost Centre. The eclectic decor and furnishing are colourful and quite interesting.

Like the rest of the outlets in Platform M, Smoke House is a self-service eatery. You order and pay via a self-ordering machine and collect the food from the collection point when it is ready.

Smoke House Menu

Smoke House offers the typical range of Western roast – including Roasted Beef Loin, Roasted Pork Ribs, Roasted Pork Knuckle and Roasted Chicken. Sausages, side dishes, roast platters and rice sets are also on the menu. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available.

Rice Sets at Smoke House

We visited Smoke House at Platform M recently. We ordered the Smoke House Roasted Beef Rice Bowl ($9.80) and Beef Short Plate Rice Set ($8.90). Both came with a choice of iced teas.

Roasted Beef Rice Bowl was presented like a Japanese rice bowl and was even topped with an onsen egg. There were several juicy slices of roast beef. The quality of the roast beef was quite good, comparable to those you might find in mid-tier hotel buffets. We enjoyed the rice bowl and would happily order it again.

The Beef Short Plate Rice Set came in a plate with a shade of pink that might make you want to eat less. That could be a good thing if you are watching your food intake. The generous cuts of beef short plate were served with two balls of rice, coleslaw and vegetables. The belly meat had a fair bit of fats and parts of meat with a coarse texture. The beef was well marinated and had a nice robust flavour. It was not a gourmet treat but certainly not bad at all at that price point.

Affordable for Groups and Families

Smoke House at Platform M is one of those places that can be suitable for communal dining with family and friends or for solo dining. It is a step up from your typical food court but the prices are still very affordable. It may be especially good for a family with hungry teenagers. The portions are fairly generous. If you are on a diet, try asking them to serve your food on one of those pink plates.
