Long Beach Seafood Dempsey

Singaporeans who have lived abroad for a number of years missed food we residents take for granted. Recently, a relative living in California visited Singapore and among the top of the list of food he wanted to eat were rojak, curry fish head and chilli crab. We brought him to Long Beach Seafood Dempsey for chilli crab, and pepper crab as well. He was more than happy with what was served at the famous seafood restaurant. We think Long Beach’s reputation as a paradise for seafood lovers is well deserved.

Long Beach Seafood Restaurant is located in the colonial buildings of the lush Dempsey Hill. From a distance, the brightly lit restaurant on a hill looks atmospheric and kind of exotic. Up close, it is a typical Chinese seafood restaurant with functional furniture and of course a bank of tanks with live seafood. It has an air-conditioned dining space as well as a naturally ventilated area.

The menu obviously has lots of seafood items – fish, crabs, lobsters, prawns and clams – which can be cooked in a variety of styles. There are also many non-seafood items. Below are pictures of random pages of the menu of Long Beach Seafood Dempsey.

Dinner at Long Beach Seafood Dempsey

We ordered the staple Singapore seafood restaurant items. Suffice to say that all the dishes that night were good and we would happily order the same again if we were to return to Long Beach Seafood Dempsey.

Youtiao with Crab Meat ($20 for medium).

Deepfried Baby Squid ($24 for medium).

Spinach with Trio of Eggs ($26 for medium).

Kampong Mee Goreng ($26 for medium).

Both the Chilli Crab ($115 for 1.3 kg crab) and Pepper Crab ($115 for 1.3 kg crab) were very good – meaty, sweet and fresh tasting. The Chilli Crab sauce was delicious and went very well with the fried mantous ($9). The Chilli Crab of Long Beach Seafood Dempsey is one of the best versions of the dish we have tried.

There are several Long Beach restaurants in Singapore. However, Long Beach Seafood Dempsey has a unique atmosphere because of its location. It will be a great option for any foreign visitor who wants to experience a Singapore style seafood feast. Long Beach Seafood Dempsey is also a good place for chilli crab and pepper crab, whether you have been yearning for them while living abroad or whether you have been living here all your life.
