Little Creatures Singapore is a brewery, pub and cafe at the junction of Club Street and Mohamed Ali Lane. In 1999, Little Creatures Brewing started making beer in a shed in a former crocodile farm in Fremantle, Australia. Their craft beer was a success and as they say, the rest is history. We have seen Little Creatures craft beer in cans are in shelves in many Singapore supermarkets. Little Creatures brewery set up shop at Club Street earlier this year. Unusually for a brewery and pub, they open very early and have long opening hours – from 8 am to midnight. If you feel like a pint of freshly brewed ale at 8 am, you know where to go.
Little Creatures Singapore does not have the dark and gloomy look that we associate with many pubs. In fact it was bright and cheerful. It looks more like a hipster cafe until you meet the beer taps at the counter and the beer making machinery behind.
We were there for breakfast. The folks at Little Creatures Singapore were very friendly and enthusiastic about their beer. We were provided with samples and a brief description of the types of beer on tap. Being no expert on beer, they generally tasted quite nice to me. Only one was not to my liking because it had a sourish taste. In the end we settled on the one that had just been brewed on location. It was called the Aussie Ale ($11 for 280 ml).
Is it wrong to have beer for breakfast?
Being in a brewery that makes food craft beers, it would be natural to order some beer right? But it felt strange to order beer in the morning. Coffee seemed like the right drink and having beer in the morning seemed wrong. People might think we are alcoholics. In the end, we had both. If the beer made us sleepy, the caffeine would wake us up and all will be fine.
Anyway, I did a search for the question “is it wrong to have beer for breakfast”. I am pleased to inform you that most of the results were beer friendly. In fact there is a The Telegraph story (with photo) of President Obama downing a beer at 11 am, ahead of a G7 summit in 2015.
Little Creatures Singapore Menu
Here is a picture of the Little Creatures Singapore Brunch Menu that is served on weekends from 8 am to 4 pm.
We ordered the three egg omelette ($14) and the avocado egg toast ($15).
Both dishes looked lovely and tasted good as well. If only the bread was not so hard at the edges, they would be perfect.
For dessert, we had the warm brownie ($12). Warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and nut toppings. It was good and so was the coffee.
