Miso Cod Castle Set at Misato, Japanese Restaurant at Gastro+, Centrepoint

It has been a year since our last visit to Misato, the Japanese restaurant at Gastro+, Centrepoint. Gastro+ is a cluster of restaurants located on level one of The Centrepoint, Orchard Road. Its simple yet attractive Japanese decor makes it stand out from the numerous dining options in The Centrepoint.

Menu

Perhaps perceived as pricey, Misato was one of the quieter restaurants in the area when we were there for lunch recently. That perception may exist because of the nice decor and the expensive dishes that appear at the start of the menu. For example, the A5 Ohmi Wagyu was described as a “non-profit dish” and priced at $43.80. But there are lower priced options in the menu of this Japanese Restaurant at Gastro+, Centrepoint. Here are pictures of some pages from the menu.

Miso Cod Chikuze-ni Castle Set

We decided to try the Miso Cod Chikuze-ni Castle Set ($28.80) solely because of its looks. The real thing looks as attractive as the picture in the menu. It was a three-tiered bento set presented in the form of a Japanese castle. The presentation was impressive and that raised our expectations on what lies inside.

When opened up, the castle revealed its contents – rice rolls on the ground floor, simmered chicken and vegetables on the middle level and miso cod on the top floor.

The best layer of food was the simmered vegetables and chicken. With a slight sweetish taste, it was a simple dish that goes well with the plain steamed rice.

The highlight of the dish was the miso marinated cod. We were expecting to be moved by a fresh clean taste of cod. But we were disappointed. The cod was average and did not taste as good as its looks.

Misato Ebi Donburi

Our other dish was Misato Ebi Donburi ($16.90). Now, this was the Misato that we knew from our previous visit. The three prawns was large. They had good texture and taste. The bowl of rice was eggs, sauce and various types of fish eggs.

Apart from the disappointment with the cod, the rest of our lunch was well presented and enjoyed. The Japanese tea ($3.90) was served in a set of traditional teapot and cup. We will still visit Misato if we are looking for a good Japanese Restaurant at Gastro+ Centrepoint in the future. But we will probably play safe and stick to the donburi style dishes.  You can read about our previous visit and other dishes we tried here.
