Cosmo Restaurant and Wine Bar is a new restaurant at the Forum the Shopping Mall along Orchard Road, Singapore. It takes over the place formerly occupied by California Pizza Kitchen which had (in mid 2018) moved across the road to Claymore Connect at Orchard Hotel. With part of the premises set up as a nightspot and the other part as a regular restaurant, it was hard to figure out what to expect. We decided to have lunch at Cosmo Restaurant and Wine Bar to find out.
Cosmo the Wine Bar
Cosmo Restaurant and Wine Bar enjoys a wide frontage facing the Orchard Road pedestrian mall. This part of the place is set up as a wine bar. High stools and tables, a small stage with sound equipment, a well stocked bar counter suggests that it the kind of place that is sleepy in the day and awakes at night.
Cosmos the Restaurant
Cosmo Restaurant and Wine Bar has another entrance from the inside of The Forum The Shopping Mall. This is the mall that houses Toys R Us (yes, the toy store is still there). This part of the place is set up as a regular restaurant. We like the tablecloths but not the paintings and the colour scheme. A long dark section of the restaurant connects the two ends of the restaurant.
Cosmo Restaurant and Wine Bar Menu
Here are pictures of the Cosmo Restaurant Menu and the weekend special. It is a Western cuisine menu with different types of meats, seafood, salad and pasta.
Some reasonably priced wines (below $50 / bottle) were featured.
We were impressed by the quality of the dishes that we tried that day. The pan-fried blue swimmer crab with Mediterranean flavours ($20) was very good. We are not sure what went into making the “Mediterranean flavours” but it tasted similar to our local prawn paste (hae bee hiam). A runny egg yolk will enhance any dish.
The handmade mushroom pasta, a weekend special ($18) had a nice chewy texture. The mushroom and truffle tastes were well-balanced.
The two meat dishes ($28 each) looked tasted somewhat similar. The Signature BBQ pork ribs (picture above) and the beef cheek stewed in red wine must have been cooked for a long time. Both were soft and very easy to eat with the nice gravy. The pork was served with vegetables while the beef came with mashed potato. Both good dishes but not as special as the first two.
Overall, we liked the food at Cosmo Restaurant and Wine Bar. Service was friendly but we were not too enamoured with the decor for a restaurant.
