Blu Kouzina, Greek restaurant at Dempsey Hill

It has been a while since our last visit to Blu Kouzina, the Greek restaurant at Dempsey Hill.  Many restaurants are quiet during the weekday lunch and so we turned up without a reservation. We know that Blu Kouzina is popular but we did not expect the big turnout at the restaurant. The main dining area was almost full.

The main dining area (picture above) is airconditioned and is where the main action takes place,  There is an extension at the back that was not open (picture below). The latter is actually a nicer area as it is bright and the white and blue colours pop like in Greece. We think that this section is open in the evenings.

Blue Kouzina Menu

Here are pictures of The Blue Kouzina menu. A big part of the menu is devoted to starters – salads, pita and dips and meze. Meat, seafood and vegetarian selections complete the rest of the menu.

We started with some pita bread ($3.90) and hummus dip ($15.90).  The bread was very good – light and fragrant. The hummus, made mostly with chickpeas was also good. But it was cold. Perhaps thats how it should be eaten but we probably would have liked it better if if was warm or at least at room temperature.

Mousaka is our must eat item at Blu Kouzina. We are not Greek food experts but some friends say that the mousaka here is the best among Greek restaurants in Singapore. We can’t say if it is definitely the best, but it is very good. The proportion of bechamel sauce, minced beef and eggplants seemed just right. It is pricey dish ($29.80) – but worth ordering. It is probably too much for one person as it is a heavy dish.

Our final dish at the Greek restaurant in Dempsey was grilled sardines ($29.80).  This dish of grilled sardines was another winner. We think the secret ingredient at Blu Kouzina is the extra virgin olive oil that they use. It has a lot of small bones and has a slight fishy taste. But that is par for the course when it comes to sardines.

Overall, another enjoyable lunch at this popular Greek restaurant at Dempsey.  Good, straightforward Greek food seems to hit the right spot for many diners at Blue Kouzina. Reservations are recommended, even on weekdays.
