Casa Rustico is Italian for “Rustic House”. We were half-expecting an ornate Italian country-side decor, perhaps with checked table cloths, when we visited this new Italian restaurant at Mohamed Sultan Road recently. It turned out to be much less rustic than we anticipated. Rather than rustic, it was a simply furnished Italian restaurant.
Located on the ground floor of a shophouse at the start of Mohamed Sultan Road (near River Valley Road), Casa Rustico has the long narrow layout typical of shophouse restaurants. Only the service area in the middle was brightly bathed by natural light from the air well. Tables are arranged only on one side of the long space, which is a good thing as there was no feeling of congestion.
Casa Rustico Menu
Here are some pictures of the Casa Rustico Menu. The brunch menu contains generic brunch/breakfast items like scrambled eggs on toast and ham and cheese sandwich. The regular day menu contains the more conventional Italian dishes like antipasto, pasta and meat items.
The pulled pork sandwich ($19.50) from the brunch menu was pretty good. The slow cooked pork was soft and light. Sweet potatoes fries are always welcome on our plate!
The smashed avocado on toasted rye soudough tasted average but we thought that the price of $6.50 was reasonable.
Like the smashed avocado, the melted cheese on sourdough was nothing to look at. In fact it looked very messy. But we liked the generous amount of cheddar and mozarella cheese used. At a price of $6.30, it is good value for money. One of this with a cup of black coffee would be enough for a substantial breakfast.
The lasagne ($21.10) was the best dish of the day. Light and creamy with the bechamel sauce. It is a dish we will order again.
