Honolulu Cafe in Centrepoint (Closed)

Honolulu Cafe has nothing to do with Hawaii, as far as we know. Honolulu Coffee Shop of Hong Kong is well known for its flaky egg tarts. When Honolulu Cafe Singapore opened in The Centrepoint, there were long queues to get into the cafe as well as to buy the famous egg tarts for takeaway. It may now be a good time to go to Honolulu Cafe for a meal as it is no longer trendy for the die-hard foodies to stand in line for egg tarts (now they are queueing for brown sugar milk tea). It is not too difficult to get a table in Honolulu Cafe now and it has a fairly extensive menu of interesting affordably priced items. There is much more to Honolulu Cafe than just egg tarts.

Honolulu Cafe Singapore

Honolulu Cafe in The Centrepoint is a casual diner with a decor which evokes a Hong Kong yum cha experience. Tables are reasonably well spaced out. Utensils are found in the drawers built into the tables.

Honolulu Cafe Menu

We were pleasantly surprised by the scope of the menu of Honolulu Cafe Singapore. Besides the typical Hong Kong yum cha items, there are noodles, rice, pasta and dishes like chicken chop. Below are pictures of portions of the Honolulu Cafe Menu.

Lunch at Honolulu Cafe

We went to Honolulu Cafe in The Centerpoint for lunch and ordered the HK Pork Chop Bun ($6.80) and the Stir Fried Hor Fun with Beef ($9.80).

The pork chop bun was served with a small portion of salad. We liked the pork chop which had meat which retained its tenderness within the slightly crispy fried exterior. It was a dish which was nice but did not really excite.

The stir-fried beef hor fun was good. There was a smokey flavour and the dish tasted better than we had expected.

Honolulu Cafe Singapore - BBQ Polo Bun

Since we were at Honolulu Cafe, we thought we must eat their signature snacks – the BBQ Polo Bun ($2.15) and Egg Tart ($1.70). We also had milk tea and coffee ($3.20 each). Both the polo bun and egg tart were very good.

The egg tart is definitely a good reason to visit Honolulu Cafe Singapore. However, we are glad that the cafe offers more than just snacks. It can also be a good place for a nice affordable meal.
