FrapasBar by Saveur – affordable tapas-style French cuisine

Frapasbar Century Square

Saveur, known for reasonably priced French fare for the ordinary patrons, has created a fresh new concept – FrapasBar. Combine French cuisine with tapas-style food and add a bar and, hey presto, a new F&B concept with a new name is conceived – FrapasBar.

FrapasBar by Saveur

The first FrapasBar by Saveur is at Century Square in Tampines. The second outlet opened recently at The Cathay in Dhoby Ghaut.

FrapasBar Century Square is quite spacious. The bar dominates and there is an eclectic mix of tables and chairs. It might not win any interior design award but the space looks pleasant and cheerful.

FrapasBar Menu

FrapasBar’s menu is not Saveur’s menu modified to facilitate sharing, although the dishes at FrapasBar are served in small portions. The menu has new and interesting items, which include Pariser Schnitzel pork cutlet, Seafood Bouillabaisse Pasta, Escargot on Bone Marrow and Earl Grey Creme Brulee. The prices are very reasonable with many items on the menu below $10.

Below are pictures of the menu of FrapasBar.

Besides the a la carte menu, there are various set deals and promotions.

Lunch at FrapasBar

Lunch at FrapasBar

We had lunch at FrapasBar Century Square recently. We ordered the Saveur Pasta ($6), Rillette Dumpling ($7), Crab Croquette ($9) and Mackerel Escabeche ($9). GST and service charge would be added to the bill. They do not serve iced water but they offered us cappuccino and long black at $3 each.

Saveur Pasta at FrapasBar

The Saveur Pasta was beautifully plated and looked like a dish served in fine dining restaurants. The angel hair pasta was tossed with chilli oil, kombu and pork sauce with sakura ebi sprinkled generously over it. It was an interesting and enjoyable dish.

Rillette Dumplings

The Rillette Dumplings had crispy wanton skins and a generous amount of minced duck meat filling. Mentaiko sauce was provided. It was a rich dish and those who were partial to duck would enjoy the dumplings.

Crabmeat Croquette at FrapasBar

The Crabmeat Croquette – with fennel, cucumber, red chilli, spring onion, mayo and coconut – was an excellent dish. It looked simple but it had a good combination of different textures and flavours. It was delightful and an item we would happily order again.

Mackerel Escabeche

The grilled Mackerel Escabeche, which was poached in a onion, carrot and white wine marinade, was a good value for money dish. The portion was quite generous. The wine sauce was delightful and on the whole the dish was enjoyable.

We did not have room for dessert but the coffee at FrapasBar was good.

French + Tapas = Frapas. Frapas + Drinks = FrapasBar. FrapasBar = more than enough interesting items on the menu to try in one sitting. We will definitely be going back to the affordable FrapasBar by Saveur again.
