In Singapore, someone as young as 55 can sometimes receive senior citizen benefits. For examples, those aged 55 years and above can qualify for the senior citizen 50% discount at Pizza Hut on weekdays 1.30 pm to 5 pm, and for concession rate of $5 per ticket at Shaw Theatres and Golden Village cinemas on weekdays before 6 pm. For seniors who love buffets, there is a $35 Lunch Buffet for those over 55 at The Square Novotel Clarke Quay.
The Square Restaurant
Located on the 7th floor of Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay, The Square Restaurant is a contemporary all day dining restaurant. It is spacious, with tables to accommodate big groups as well as a lone diner. There are tables by the pool for al fresco dining.
The Square Buffet for Seniors
The Square Restaurant at Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay has an a la carte menu with a wide range of food. However, it is its international buffet with different themes which attracts many diners to The Square. Those above 55 pay a special Senior Citizen price for buffet at The Square. Below is a picture of the poster showing the various regular prices for buffets and the prices for children and senior citizens.
Buffet Lunch at The Square
We went for the lunch buffet of The Square Restaurant at Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay recently. The International lunch buffet has the usual appetizers, a variety of local and international dishes and live cooking stations. The range of mains is not extensive but that leaves room for the wide array of attractive and delicious desserts.
Seafood on ice, cold cuts and a variety of salads are available.
There is the perennial favourite sushi station.
Roasted meats, a-la minute pasta, meats cooked in local ethnic styles and European style are part of the buffet spread. There are also items like roti prata and dim sum.
One of the highlights of the buffet lunch at The Square is the Signature Laksa. Unlike the usual live cooking station where a chef prepares the dish for you, at The Square you are the one that will be doing most of the work. You chose the ingredients you like and the amount you want and put them in a bowl. The chef will cook what you have put in the bowl and add the laksa gravy. You then add the condiments and chili to suit your taste.
Desserts of Buffet Lunch at The Square
It is definitely a good idea to save room for desserts when having buffet at The Square. There is a wide range and variety of desserts. Spread out over several sections are chocolate fondue with condiments, ice cream, bread pudding, nonya kuehs and a tempting array of jelly, mousse, cakes and tarts.
For durian lovers, The Square Signature Durian Pengat alone may be a good enough reason to go for the buffet in Novotel Clarke Quay. It is not too sweet and has an authentic taste – almost like eating fresh creamy durian.
Reasonably Priced Buffet
The Square offers a good buffet spread. Though not the most extensive, it covers all the necessary bases. The durian pengat and laksa are our favourite items. We think it is a reasonably priced buffet. For those above 55, the buffet at The Square Novotel Clarke Quay is even more affordable and good value. From Monday to Saturday, Lunch Buffet for Seniors over 55 at The Square Novotel Clarke Quay is only $35++.
