Benjamin Barker Cafe Orchard Cineleisure

According to their website, “Benjamin Barker is a purveyor of smart-casual, heritage inspired apparel and a lifestyle destination for the discerning gentleman”. We are certainly familiar with the BB stores in various parts of Singapore. They had opened the Barker Benjamin Barker Cafe Orchard Cineleisure sometime last year, but it was only recently that we had the chance to pop by and check it out. Fashion labels branching out into the f & b business is not unheard of. Success stories like Singapore’s PS Cafe and Thailand’s Greyhound come to mind.

The decor at Benjamin Barker Cafe Orchard Cineleisure is a mix of country and industrial. The cafe is on the ground floor. A set of stairs lead upwards to the retail areas. The cafe looks nice and spacious from the outside. But we thought that the layout was somewhat congested inside. We can imagine the challenges that the large pillar and staircase create for any space planner.

Here are pictures of the Benjamin Barker Cafe Menu at Orchard Cineleisure. We already had lunch nearby and only had space for dessert and coffee that day. The menu contains the usual Western restaurant staples – pasta, pizza, burgers etc. What is also interesting is the $12 set lunch – for a main course and appetiser with an option of adding a coffee for another $2.

We had the Apple Crumble ($10). It was served in a ‘deconstructed’ form. Bits of crumbs were left on the plate. Some were stuffed into a hollowed out apple. Pieces of fruits were scattered on the plate together with a scoop of ice-cream. We can appreciate the creativity behind the dish. But the final product looked rather messy. The taste was not bad. If only the presentation was better thought out, it has the potential to be rather good.

The coffees on the other hand were expertly executed. We had cappuccino ($5.50)and piccolo ($4.50). They were both smooth and creamy. The coffee strength was just nice for us and the latte art almost too good to be consumed. The shapes had such crisp clear edges! We would certainly want to return to try the other items on the menu.
