We were impressed with the new Funan Mall when it opened on 28 June 2019. It certainly does not look like the old Funan Centre (a.k.a. Funan DigitaLife Mall) or any typical shopping mall in Singapore. In fact we like its edgy look. More importantly, we were there to check out the the best restaurants in Funan Mall. There is a good mix of new and old restaurants. We hope our list of 15 of the best restaurants at Funan Mall to try in 2019 will help our readers decide what to eat at the new Funan Centre.

The interior of the new Funan mall looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, which is befitting the mall’s tech focus. The food outlets in the new Funan are spread out over the building but with the highest concentration in levels B2, B1 and 1. There is a nice cluster of interesting restaurants on level 2 of Funan. The most attractive restaurant, NOKA is by itself at the roof garden on level 7. There are too many f & b places to list out here. It is easier for you to consult the official restaurant directory of Capitaland. We have focused on what we thought are the best and most interesting restaurants to check out at the new mall. We have included sample pictures of the menus where available.

15 of the best restaurants at Funan Mall
1. NOKA

“Noka” means farmhouse in Japanese and is a restaurant by Open Farm Community. It uses produce grown on the 5,000-plus square foot rooftop urban farm. It is a lovely looking restaurant on level 7 which is accessible by lift or the outdoor stairs.

3. The Oyster Bank

We thought that the Oyster Bank at the new Funan mall was one of the most interesting restaurants there. It was a surprise to find an oyster bar in a techie mall.

4. Sinpopo Coffee

Sinpopo Coffee at Funan is a new concept by Sinpopo Brand where they prepare traditional Nanyang coffee with the craft and flair of Italian espresso. It also boasts of Draft Coffee on Tap, which tastes almost like Irish stout. Read more.

5. Yu Kee Specialities

Yu Kee Duck Rice apparently has more than 30 outlets all over Singapore. So it cannot be said to be a new restaurant. But that does not stop the delicious looking braised ducks (prepared Teochew style) from calling out to us as we passed by. We can imagine how good those eggs and tau kwa would taste with the dark braised sauce.

6. Old Street Bak Kut Teh

Old Street Bak Kut Teh describes itself as the world’s largest chain of its kind, with 18 outlets in Singapore and 5 overseas. We were also impressed by the attractive decor of Old Street BKT at the new Funan mall.

Liao Fan Hawker Chan is a JV between Hersing Culinary and Mr Chan, owner and chef of Liao Fan Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle, which was awarded one Michelin star in 2016, 2017 and 2018 for his Hong Kong-style soy sauce chicken. 13. Fireless Kitchen

14. Tiong Bahru Bakery

Tiong Bahru Bakery is another restaurant in Funan that does not need an introduction. From their original outlet in Tiong Bahru, they have branched out to several locations in Singapore. The Tiong Bahru Bakery Funan is their sixth and possibly the most spacious outlet.

15. Hawkerman

HAWKERMAN is a collection of Singapore’s hawker food by the Tenderfresh Group. The wide variety of food is interesting. But what we really want to try are those with the catchy names, such as Ah Boy’s Hokkien popiah and Lolex Hokkien Mee. The latter costs $44.95 and we may have to pawn our “lolex” first. See our post on Hawkerman in Singpost Centre.
