The name Hibiki Sake Bar & Dine tells you that it is a place for sake. It has a wide selection of sake and modern sake dispensers occupy a central spot at the bar. The new restaurant at Paya Lebar Quarter however also serves good Japanese food and offers affordable set lunch.

Paya Lebar Quarter

Hibiki Sake Bar & Dine is one of the first F&B outlets to open in Paya Lebar Quarter, a mixed development in the new sub-regional business hub of Paya Lebar. Paya Lebar Quarter is being opened in phases. Paya Lebar Quarter Three (or PLQ 3) is the first part to be occupied. CBRE, Great Eastern Life and SMRT Corporation are among the tenants that have offices in PLQ3.

Hibiki Sake Bar & Dine at PLQ
Located on the ground level of PLQ 3, Hibiki Sake Bar & Dine has a long narrow dining area which is dominated by the bar counter. Besides the counters seats there are only a few tables at both ends of the bar. There is also an outdoor area, under a retractable awning, with high bar tables. That should be a suitable spot for drinks in the evening.

Hibiki Sake Bar & Dine Menu
The menu of Hibiki Sake Bar & Dine is fairly extensive – offering a range of popular Japanese food including skewers, oden, tempura as well as rice and noodle dishes. A link to their a la carte menu is provided at the end of this post. Pictures of the set lunch menu and sake list are below.

Set Lunch of Hibiki
We had the Yakitori Set ($16) and Buta Don Set ($18) with a cold oolong tea ($3.50) and hot Japanese tea ($1.80) when we visited the new restaurant at PLQ 3 recently. GST and service charge would be added to the bill. The tea and food were served after a wait of about 10 to 15 minutes.

The Buta Don Set was presented in the typical Japanese restaurant style on a wooden tray. The set included a rice bowl, miso soup, pickles and salad. The portion size was good enough for a person with an average appetite. The cuts of meat were reasonably generous.

The grilled pork was cut into small pieces. They were flavourful and tender. The rice was of good quality and was drizzled with a sweet savoury sauce. It was straightforward Japanese rice bowl done well – nothing spectacular but delicious and enjoyable.

The Yakitori Set also included rice, miso soup, pickles and salad. There were five skewers – 3 kinds of meat, mushroom and gingko nuts. The chicken wings looked dull but were the most flavourful and delicious of all the items.

Hibiki Sake Bar & Dine is a welcomed addition to Paya Lebar. It is a good option for an affordable Japanese set lunch and a nice spot for sake in the evening.
