Meat-Me Steakhouse Dempsey

Meat-Me Steakhouse Dempsey is a new restaurant at the dining enclave of Dempsey Hill. This steak restaurant has taken over the premises previously occupied by Spanish restaurant Tapas 26, which in turn had replaced La Ventana. If you find the place somewhat familiar, it is because the place has only been slightly modified. It looks substantially like Tapas 26. You can read about our lunch at Tapas 26 here.

Meat-Me Steakhouse Dempsey Menu

Here are pictures of the Meat Me Steakhouse menu. It is a focused menu – meat is the main event with some pasta and fish items for those who prefer less meat in their diet. We decided to have the 3-course lunch set which costs $29++.

In anticipation of an all-meat lunch we brought along a bottle of 2012 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château de Beaucastel. It has been described by Wine Advocate thus: “… the best Beaucastel since the 1990 or 2001, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape offers a full-bodied, decadent style to go with awesome black and blue fruits, garrigue, licorice, crushed flowers and violets”. It was indeed a delicious wine. And it went well with the meat dishes that day.

The Set Lunch

Some bread were served at the beginning. They were olive oil flavoured which was quite nice, but could have been even better if they were served warm.

For our starter, we both chose the baby octopus with pesto and sweet peppers. Grilled octopus and pepper is a great combination and the taste was good.

For the main course we had the 60-day aged strip loin and the herb encrusted lamb rack (which required an extra $8 payment). Sides of fries and salad were also served. The strip loin had a robust meaty taste which we enjoyed but that was spoiled by the relatively high proportion of hard or chewy bits.

We had a better experience with the lamb rack. The meat was juicy, tender and succulent. The lamb flavour was present but in a pleasant way. Even those that normal avoid lamb for fear of the gamey taste might like this one. It was worth paying the extra $8 for this dish. The young Ch Beaucastel with its fresh fruity flavours was also great with the lamb.

Dessert

Pear Tatin

Our desserts were pear tatin (above picture) and the chocolate pistachio opera cake. Both were good and we are happy to order either one again at Meat-Me Steakhouse Dempsey.
