Dean & Deluca Singapore has been in operation for quite some time now. Other than a visit or two during its early days in Singapore, I realised that this is one of the cafes that have somehow escaped us. With the news of its closure in New York and reading this rather bleak article by Robb Report (Dean & Deluca: The premium grocer and cafe is closing down in New York. Will its stores in Singapore follow suit?), we thought we should check out the Dean & Deluca Singapoure outlet at Far East Square when we were in the area recently.
We learnt from the Robb Report article that the Dean & Deluca Orchard Central store has closed. Their remaining branches are at Far East Square and HillV2. Dean & Deluca Far East Square is a practical space with not much by way of aesthetics. The HillV2 outlet is more beautiful. It was one of the original tenants in the suburban mall and also one of the most stylish outlets there. You can see it in our post on HillV2 (the post is quite old and probably requires some updating).
Dean & Deluca has been in business for 42 years and has been quite a trend setter. They were the first store in New York to offer extra virgin oil. I remember that it was a hip and trendy place when I was in NYC many years ago.
Dean & Deluca Singapore
We were at Dean & Deluca Far East Square around lunch time and it was almost full. We can see why when we surveyed the lunch options. The lunch combinations look like very good value for money. One main and two salads cost only $13 – in the heart of the Singapore CBD, no less. The Gourmet Box option also looks like a good idea for dining in at the office. Each box contains 16 sandwiches that can serve 5 pax. Which works out to about $8 per person! The food on display also looked appetising. Unfortunately we already had lunch and could only try a dessert and coffee.
There was quite a good range of cakes available at Dean & Deluca Far East Sq. The apple crumble, coffee and tea were not bad. Cappucino costs $6. The ambience is not as nice as some other cafes, so if the objective is to chit chat over dessert and coffee, I think we might want to try some other places in the future. But for a simple and healthy lunch, we will want to try their salad and main combinations on a future visit.
