MaguroDonya Miuramisakikou Sushi Suntec City

MaguroDonya Miuramisakikou Sushi is one of the restaurants in the cluster of Japanese restaurants known as Eat at Seven in Suntec City. Together with several Japanese restaurants they are part of the Japan Food Street on level 2 of Suntec City around the central atrium. Now that Japan Food Town in Wisma Atria (Orchard Road) has closed, this could be one of the alternative one-stop shops for multiple choices of Japanese restaurants.

Eat at Seven is a collection of seven food outlets serving different types of Japanese cuisine. You can read about our meals at Kohaku Tendon (tempura bowls) and Unagiya Ichinoji (unagi). MaguroDonya Miuramisakikou is the sushi specialist at Eat at Seven.

The entrance of MaguroDonya Miuramisakikou Sushi looks rather busy but the interior is quite nice. Like a typical sushi restauant, it has a predominantly light wood finish. Diners can choose to sit at the sushi counter or at the regular dining tables. What does the long name of the restaurant mean? We found the answer when we looked at their website. The tagline is “The Freshest Maguro in Town by Maguro (tuna) Donya (wholesaler) from Miura Misaki Port, Japan!” Maguro and other seafood are apparently directly flown in from Misaki Port, Japan.

The sushi restaurant at Eat at Seven has an extensive menu. Sushi and sashimi take centre stage but there are also other cooked food items. Here are just a few sample pages from the MaguroDonya Miuramisakikou Sushi menu. We decided to try some sushi and sashimi items.

The Food

The Matsu Set $44.90++ was a platter of sushi with different cuts of tuna and other types of seafood. Some salad, miso soup, chawanmushi and dessert (two slices of orange) completed the meal. The sushi was fine but we would have preferred the texture of the pieces of tuna to be firmer. Overall, the quality was reasonable for the price but we had higher expectations in view of the restaurant’s link with a wholesaler.

We also tried the sashimi platter with three cuts of tuna ($38++). Like the sushi platter, the sashimi items were reasonable but we were expecting to be wowed, but that was not the case.
