We had a Jumbo Seafood Dempsey Bento Box lunch the other day. The Jumbo delivery / takeaway is the most organised restaurant takeaway / delivery setup that we have seen. This popular seafood restaurant has many outlets in Singapore but the Dempsey outlet is probably the best location for a takeaway meal as it is directly accessible from the large free parking carpark.
While many restaurants have reorganised themselves to handle the increased traffic from takeawy customers and delivery services, we have not seen a restaurant that has such a structured command centre for delivery options as Jumbo Seafood Dempsey.
Big signs separate different types of people arriving for collection. A big spacious area has been cleared and converted into a waiting area with enough social distancing that the taskforce will surely approve of.
The organised waiting and collection area for our friends from Foodpanda, Grabfood and Deliveroo is a nice change from the crowded reception area that we sometimes see.
Jumbo Seafood Dempsey Bento Box Menu
Jumbo Seafood Dempsey Bento Box meals are probably the most affordable takeaway food from this seafood restaurant. Priced at $10.80 or $12.80 it is the kind of simple lunch that are suitable for ordinary patrons. In addition to the bento boxes, many other regular items are also available. The items that were most attractive were the crab items. Starting from $62.90, these are available for those with deeper pockets. Here are some pictures of portions from the menu.
Jumbo Bento Boxes A and B
We selected the Jumbo Seafood Dempsey Bento Boxes A and B. There was a 10% discount on the bento boxes and 20% on a la carte items for self-collection. I see that there is now a Mother’s Day promo (1 to 10 May 2020) with discounts of 20% self collection and 10% delivery islandwide. There are different rules for pickup or delivery and for bento. It is best to consult the online order website (link below) for a suitable deal before you do anything.
I had earlier described the Jumbo delivery / takeaway as the most organised restaurant takeaway / delivery setup that we have seen. This extends to the packaging as well. The utensils and serviette were in sealed packs. The boxes have tight lids but have an added safety belt. Clearly written on the boxes are the type of bento and time of food preparation. A smart system for easy packing and food safety. A complimentary pack of Glico (chilli crab flavour) was given for each bento.
There is a choice of steamed rice or egg fried rice. We chose the latter for both bentos. The Bento A (picture below) has deep-fried salmon in Nonya sauce, braised beancurd and French beans in garlic and minced pork. It was an enjoyable bento with the different side dishes providing assorted tastes and textures. The Nonya sauce is slightly sweet and tangy (not spicy).
Bento Box B (picture below) has chicken glazed with tangerine honey as the meat item. Stir-fried broccoli and beancurd with mushrooms completed the meal. This was also a very nice bento with a good mix of carbo, meat and vegetables. We think that these bentos are simple fuss-free meals to avoid the hassle of cooking at home.
