Megumi Japanese Restaurant in Joo Chiat is a popular casual Japanese diner with an extensive menu. They are now on all the major food delivery platforms and also take orders for takeaway.
For those who drive, self-collection of food from Megumi is convenient as there is a small private carpark right in front of the restaurant. Even if the limited number of lots are taken up, double parking for less than a minute to pick up the food just a few steps away should be a feasible option.
Megumi Bento
Megumi’s Menu is extensive and cover a wide range of Japanese restaurant staples – sushi, sashimi, tempura, teppanyaki, donburi, ramen, soba and more.
We ordered a Saba Shio Bento and Katsu Curry Bento ($15.80 each). The prices and discounts differ from platforms to platforms. We placed our order through foodpanda, where the menu price for each bento set was stated as $18.60; but there was a 15% discount for self pick-up.
Saba Shio Bento
The Saba Shio Bento of Megumi Japanese Restaurant comprised Grilled Mackerel, 2 pieces of Fried Chicken, Salad, and Miso Soup. The portion size was quite generous.
The fried chicken was delicious – very crispy on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. The grilled fish seasoned with salt was delicately soft and had a nice flavour. The other items in the bento box was of the expected standard.
Katsu Curry Bento
The Katsu Curry Bento included Pork Cutlet, Fried Chicken, Salad. Mashed Potato, Rice and Miso Soup.
The crust of the port cutlet was not as crispy as we had expected. However, that did not matter too much when it was doused with curry. The Japanese style curry was fairly typical – thick, silky and mildly spicy.
Reasonably Priced Comfort Food
We enjoyed the lunch boxes from Megumi Japanese Restaurant. We thought the bento sets were reasonably priced. The portion was quite generous and the quality of the food was good at that price point. There was nothing fancy – just good comfort food that was palatable.
