The new Gochi-So Shokudo Restaurant is located on the 2nd level of Chinatown Point. The casual Japanese diner uses low walls to give the small space a more open and airy feel. The furnishing is functional though the use of wave pattern design on the ceiling and front counter does distinguish it from the generic mall eateries.

Lunch at Gochi-So Shokudo

We needed a quick lunch and ordered Iberico Collar Don ($10.80) and Iberico Belly Curry Rice ($12.80).

Iberico Collar Don at Gochi-So Shokudo

Iberico pork comes from pigs in the Iberian Peninsula, a mountainous region covering parts of Spain and Portugal. With a diet consisting of acorns, nuts and grass from wooded pastures, Iberian pigs have high intramuscular fat. The meat is tender and has a distinctive nutty flavour.

At Gochi-So Shokudo, the pork rice bowl would probably be the best way to enjoy the the premium grade meat. The Iberico Collar Don comprised charcoal grilled pork slices and a poached egg on a bed of steamed rice. The portion of the sliced pork was quite generous. The meat was tender and tasty without the need to add any sauce or condiments.

The Iberico Belly Curry Rice allowed us to enjoy the pork in a different way. The curry with small pieces of carrots and potatoes had a gravy like texture. It was sweet and just a little spicy. The pork was not drown in the curry, so we could savour the char-grilled taste of the meat. The curry would complement the grilled pork belly well. When the curry and pork combined, there were layers of flavours and yet the taste profiles of both the main elements were allowed to shine through.
