A Simple Home Delivery Meal from Soup Restaurant

It was a wet and rainy day in Singapore. We decided to order a simple home delivery meal from the Soup Restaurant using the Oddle online system. There was a hiccup with the order that resulted in a 30 minute delay but the food was great.

According to the Soup Restaurant website, their first outlet was established in Smith Street in 1991. They focused on herbal soups and home-cooked dishes, targetting young professionals with limited access to home-cooked food. Their famous dish of Samsui Ginger Chicken is the must-eat dish and was the centrepiece of our simple home delivery meal from Soup Restaurant

A Simple Home Delivery Meal

We wondered why it took us so long since the start of COVID to decide to order takeaway from Soup Restaurant. Their dishes are very suitable for takeaway. They are like home-cooked meals but with some unique flavours. And they can survive a short road trip well. All the items turned up in good shape, especially the Samsui Ginger Chicken Samsui Ginger Chicken (三水姜茸鸡, $23.90, picture below) which looked like it was served at a restaurant.

The heart of the dish is the tender, perfectly cooked chicken dipped in the ginger sauce. There are more elegant ways of eating it. But in the comfort of home, we ate it with our hands. A stack of crunchy lettuce leaves with no blemishes is available to wrap a piece or two of chicken.

We also ordered a Claypot Tofu (砂煲豆腐($11.90), Fried French Bean with Minced Pork (干煸四季豆, $12.90) and Steamed Hand-chopped Minced Pork with Water Chestnut (马蹄蒸手剁肉饼, $13.38). They are common dishes that go well with steamed rice ($1.65 each). They make a great combination for a meal at home on a rainy day.

These are simple dishes which many can prepare at home or available at zhi char palces. But for people like us whose culinary skills are almost non-existent, we are always glad to be able to order a simple home delivery meal. The taste of the dishes were above average. For example the French beans had a strong complex taste of dried fish woven into the minced pork.

For placing an order above $50, we received a free gift of mini longevity beans. This was the first time we ate these buns at home. Before then only time we ever ate them were at birthday celebrations at traditional Chinese restaurants. Soup Restaurant has many outlets in Singapore. Our order was fulfilled by the Clementi Mall outlet.
