This packet of Prima Taste Ready Meal – Chicken Claypot Rice at NTUC Fairprice supermarket caught our when we were there recently. It has nice packaging and the important words: “Microwave Ready in 90 Seconds”. Always on the lookout for easy meals at home we bought a couple of packs to try.

Prima Taste Ready Meal – Chicken Claypot Rice Cooking Instructions

This is a picture of the back of the packaging with the cooking instructions. It seems like a straightforward process of popping the pack into the microwave and setting the prescribed temperature and time.

We started by squeezing the pack to loosen the rice grains inside. Just one or two gentle presses should do the trick as the rice and ingredients are cooked and we don’t want squishy rice. Next a small gap is opened up at the top to allow steam to escape. The recommended microwave setting is 800 watts for 90 seconds.

Prima Taste Ready Meal – Chicken Claypot Rice After Heating

After the microwaves have done their job we noticed a bit of steam emerging from the gap. The mouth of the pack can be opened after all the steam had escaped. This is a picture of the heated pack of cooked Prima Taste Ready Meal chicken claypot rice. The food can be eaten straight from the pack, which would be the easiest way to eat it to minimise washing up. Those who frown on microwaving food in plastic can transfer to an appropriate container to be microwaved. The microwave settings may have to be adjusted to heat up the contents.

We transferred the Prima Taste chicken claypot rice into a nice bowl to show off its full potential. We were pleasantly surprised by its looks and taste. It reminded us of a good serving of lor mai kai. The rice had maintained a good consistency and there was a fair amount of chicken and mushrooms. The ingredients listed includes chicken sausage and salted fish which must have contributed to the authentic taste.

Prima Taste Ready Meal - Chicken Claypot Rice

Overall we were impressed with the Prima Taste Ready Meal – Chicken Claypot Rice. The serving size is not large. It is more suitable as a snack than as a meal. But we like the taste and its convenience. At the current “offer” price of $4.90 we would buy a few more to stock up the pantry. It may not have the flavours of actual chicken clay pot rice such as that from New Lucky Claypot Rice (picture below), but the taste is good for something coming out of a plastic pack.
