Lucid is a minimalist cafe opened by Andrea Tan, called Singapore’s ‘coffee princess’ by CNA Lifestyle. With 2 National Brewers Cup champions as partners, quality barista-brewed coffee is the main attraction of the stylish cafe in Hamilton Road. As even the most die hard coffee lovers cannot live on coffee alone, Lucid has introduced a new menu of a few savoury dishes and baked pastries.
Lucid has the contemporary minimalist cafe look – with cement flooring and industrial-grey and white colour scheme. The long and narrow shop house space looks hip. The chairs and tables are not the most comfortable – perhaps designed to deter those who might be thinking of using the beautiful space as an “office” or to do homework.
There is a long bar and you can sit in front of the baristas and see them practising their craft. can walk you through the whole journey. That is supposed to make to enjoy your coffee even more.
New Menu at Lucid
When Lucid Cafe was first opened, it had an ultra simple menu. Essentially, it offered coffee and chocolate plus a few baked items like Banana Bread, Brownie and the much photographed Cloud Beta (a white chocolate mousse with shortbread base). Many had expressed the wish that Lucid would offer some savoury dishes and more substantial items so that they could have brunch or a light lunch there. Lucid duly obliged without expanding its lean menu by much. In addition to croissants and pastries, scone and toast are included in the menu.

Croissant & Toast
We tried Lucid’s Almond Croissant ($5.80) and Egg Salad Toast ($8.50). Both items were stylishly plated.
Many cafes in Singapore offer croissants. They come in different textures and variations. Lucid’s croissant was buttery with a crisp outside layer and soft luscious inner layers. It was aromatic and flavourful. It was a good version of the quintessential French almond croissant which would be enjoyable anytime of the day.
The savoury Egg Salad Toast was a simple dish dressed for the gala. It might be just creamy egg on a piece of toasted rye with some mayonnaise and mustard added, but it felt like a luxurious treat. The portion was quite substantial. It was a healthy dish that looked good and was delectable – perfect for brunch or a light meal.
