Parallel Coffee Roasters Duxton Hill: Beautiful Coffee & Ugly Bread

Parallel Coffee Roasters Cafe at Duxton Hill was where we ended up for coffee after our lunch at Beng Who Cooks along Neil Road. The cafe has a peaceful environment. The coffee was good and reasonably priced. The pastries however are unikely to win any prizes in a beauty contest.

According to their website, Parallel Coffee Roaster was started in 2017 by two brothers who could not find a good cup of coffee in Singapore for less than $5. I think I know how they feel. Good coffee at a reasonable price can be hard to find in Singapore. Sometimes the cost of the coffee is almost the price of a meal.

After the hustle and bustle of the Beng Who Cook restaurant, we were glad to settle into the calm atmosphere of the Parallel Coffee Roasters Cafe on Duxton Hill. The decor is unostentatious but comfortable.

Parallel Coffee Roasters Menu

Here is a picture of a portion of the Parallel Coffee Roasters menu. Apart from coffee, they have a small selection of food – mainly sandwiches and pastries. The coffees are priced lower than what we are used to in this part of Singapore. Black and white coffee costs $2.90 and $3.90 each respectively and iced versions cost the same. The brothers appear to have done what they set out to do.

Although we only wanted to have coffee, we also ordered pastries as coffee always taste better when there is something to nibble on. We chose a couple of croissants – an almond croisaant ($4.5) and another one which I can’t remember the flavour. All I can remember is that they they tasted ok but were not very pretty. But they were quite big and value for money.

Here is a picture of the coffee and pastries from another angle. We could not get them to look better. But we were very pleased with the coffee. They had the ‘atas’ coffee taste and texture. Smooth, creamy and a pleasant after taste. With the reasonable price tag of $3.90 for a cappuccino, they look even more beautiful.

Parallel Coffee Roasters at Duxton Hill was a nice stopover for coffee. As for the pastries, don’t worry about their looks, they are for eating and not looking.
