Lunch at Lao Huo Tang Canton
We were at IMM Outlet Mall during the recently Chinese New Year holidays and decided to have lunch at Lao Huo Tang Canton. We ordered Apple Snow Pear Soup ($11.80), Pork Ribs in Marmite Sauce ($15.80) and Hong Kong Style Kailan ($12.80). Chinese tea was charged at $3.50 for two and plain steamed rice was $1.50 per bowl. Wet napkin would be charged and service charge and GST would be added to the bill.
Tea and the soup would be served soon after the order was taken. The soup came in a black pot and we were told that we could ask for one refill.
The Apple Snow Pear Soup did not disappoint. The ingredients included pork ribs, apples, pears, dried figs, dates and apricot kernels. It was a light soup full of flavours and natural sweetness. It is supposed to be nourishing and to promote a glowing complexion. We should have this soup more often.
The Pork Ribs in Marmite Sauce were fairly ordinary. The meat was tender but the taste of Marmite was not discernible.
The Stir-fried Hong Kong Style Kailan with Garlic was surprisingly good. The thick stems were tender and juicy and the leaves were bright, green and delicate. The beauty of the dish was in its simplicity – we enjoyed the sweetness and tender texture of the kailan.
