Rocovo Restaurant – Chye Kee Goldhill Chicken Rice

Rocovo Restaurant is by definition a restaurant because it is a place where meals are prepared and served to paying customers. The name may even conjure up the image of a grand colonial era restaurant. Rocovo Restaurant is in fact a very Singaporean coffee shop in Goldhill Centre. There are several stalls in the coffee shop but the most popular stall there is Chye Kee Goldhill Chicken Rice stall.

Chye Kee Goldhill Roasted Chicken Rice in Rocova Restaurant is known for its roasted chicken rice as well as roast meats. It also offers noodles and porridge and a few side dishes.

Whole chicken and duck as well as roast pork and char siew are available for takeaway. Ordering for delivery is also possible via the usual food delivery platforms.

Chicken Rice & Char Siew with Roast Pork Rice

We ordered the Chicken Drumstick Rice ($4) and Char Siew with Roast Pork Rice ($4).

The chicken was tender and quite flavourful. The rice was proper chicken rice – it had good texture and was fragrant, slightly savoury and not oily. It may not rank among the best chicken rice in Singapore but it is a notch or two above the average chicken rice you will find in the food courts.

The portion of meat in the Char Siew with Roast Pork Rice was quite generous. The roast pork or ‘sio bak’ was quite good – with crunchy skin, tender meat and some fats. The char siew was not bad but made more palatable with the sweet savoury sauce. It was quite an enjoyable rice meal for just $4.

Chye Kee Goldhill Chicken Rice in Rocovo Restaurant is like a local hidden gem. Not many people talk about the unpretentious coffee shop (its European name sounding name notwithstanding) but there is always a long queue during lunch time at Chye Kee Goldhill Chicken Rice stall. The locals in the know appreciate the variety of nice food offered at the stall at very affordable prices, and the friendly and efficient service.
