Chanterelle is the common name of several species of wild edible mushrooms; and the name the restaurant of David and Karen Waltuck in TriBeCa, New York, acclaimed for pioneering downtown fine dining. It is also the name of a new cafe in Siglap V – which offers Bright Coffee, a special Eggless Egg Toast and cakes from Bob The Baker Boy.

Chanterelle Cafe
Yes, there is another new cafe in Siglap. Chanterelle Cafe opened in late March 2021, joining new cafes Five Oars Coffee Roasters and La Fez in the laid back suburb of Siglap.

Chanterelle is located in Siglap V, next to the old boy in the block, Craftsmen Specialty Coffee. The minimalist-industrial interior design with grey and white colour scheme of Chanterelle creates a calm relaxing atmosphere.
There is a small counter out in the corridor for those who prefer a naturally ventilated space.

Menu of Chanterelle Cafe
The new Chanterelle Cafe in Siglap fits the traditional definition of “cafe” – a small establishment for coffee and other beverages and featuring a limited menu. It essentially offers beverages, acai, cakes and pastries. Currently, the only mains are a Salad and the special Eggless Egg Toast. We were told that the “egg” was made of almond milk and potato.
Below are pictures of the menu of Chanterelle Cafe.

There are tempting cakes from Bob the Baker Boy and pastries on display at the counter.

Coffee Break at Chanterelle Siglap
We visited Chanterelle Siglap recently during a weekday for a morning coffee break. The place was a like a cool oasis – calm and comfortable. It felt like what a neighbourhood cafe ought to be – a quiet place where you could linger over a cup of coffee and read a book or listen to some music.

The cafe owners or staff were very friendly and welcoming. Water was served as soon as were seated.
We ordered a slice of Belgian Chocolate Cake ($9.50), a Single Scoop Acai ($3.90), a Long Black ($4.50) and English Breakfast Tea ($4.90). Service charge would be added to the bill but there was no GST.

The 55% chocolate couverture cake was moist and light. It was delicious; and the best part was that it was a cake with zero-added sugar. A diabetic-friendly and waistline-friendly cake that tasted as good as the usual decadent chocolate cake – what more could we ask for?

The acai was smooth and creamy and tasted like a blend of berries and chocolate ice cream. The portion size of the superfood, said to be low in sugar and high in fibre, was just right – giving health benefits and pleasure without guilt.

Chanterelle serves coffee with beans from Bright Coffee Company. Our long black was good, made more interesting by the paring with a piece of mushroom chip. The chip was very crispy and had the complex flavours of mushrooms.

Delightful Cafe
Chanterelle Cafe in Siglap V with its minimal approach to its space and menu shows that simplicity can be a virtue. The comfortable space, focus on healthier food offering and friendliness of the people would make us want to visit it more often. Chanterelle in Siglap is a delightful cafe – good for wellness of body and mind.
