We had a steak takeaway meal from recently. A bundled offering of 1.2kg prime rib, seafood linguine and truffle fries for $79 from Amano, an Italian restaurant in the Namly residential area of Singapore seemed like a good deal.

We had written about an earlier visit to Amano restaurant before. You can find more pictures and information about it in our post. It is a pleasant Italian restaurant in a residential neighbourhood off Sixth Avenue. Sometimes they feature some bundle deals that make sense for those dining as a family or in a group. There are a couple of deals featured on their Facebook page (please check as their offerings may change from time to time). The $79 1.2 NZ OP kg prime ribs package was what we ordered.

$79 1.2kg Steak Takeaway Deal from Amano
We were surprised by the large package awaiting us for collection. Our steak takeaway lunch was enough to feed four people. It was made up of a tub each of seafood linguine and truffle fries and a large try of the NZ OP prime rib. I guess NZ means New Zealand but what is “OP Prime Rib”. A quick internet search suggests that it means “oven-prepared” i.e. already cut for easy cooking.

The Prime Ribs Takeaway
We did not weigh the meat but it looked very substantial. A small portion of it was bone (less than 10%) so the nett meat content was fair enough. We had asked for it to be cooked medium-well. But the amount of “doneness” was inconsistent, perhaps on account of the large size of the meat. Most of it was medium-well or well-done with some portions still pink. I suppose it could be a blessing in disguise and can cater to a the dining group which has different preferences.

While it impressed us with its size, our steak takeaway order disappointed us with its taste. It was quite a lightly flavoured piece of steak. Some sauce was provided which we also did not think much of. We ate it mostly with a bit of pepper. The steak was enough to be apportioned into four servings like the one shown below. We would not recommend this deal if you are looking for a gourmet steak takeaway. But if you have hungry folks to feed who are not fussy about the quality of their steak meal, this will fit the bill.

The fries and pasta were sidekicks to the steak, but in terms of taste they impressed us more. The truffle fries were very good. It is the kind of food which you can’t stop once you start eating. The seafood linguine had a nice taste, with enough seafood to balance the pasta. The portion size would be enough to be a meal for one person, but I think it is better to have it as a side dish as it provides some variety to the steak takeaway lunch.
