The Les Amis lunch is the most affordable way of dining at this top Singapore 3 Michelin star restaurant. Dinner prices are more expensive and currently start from $415++.
Les Amis restaurant is located on the ground floor of Shaw Centre. Its classy decor is simple and understated. Most of the tables are on the ground floor. There is a tiny mezzanine level and the Les Amis private rooms are on the second floor and in the basement where the kitchen is.
The Les Amis Lunch Menu (Autumn Menu, December 2021)
Our Les Amis lunch happened in early December 2021. The three and four course lunch prices were $205++ and $255++ respectively. At the time of this post they have introduced the Les Amis Winter Menu which sees an increase in prices during the festive period. Here is a picture of the $255 4-course Autumn Menu that we tried.
Les Amis Wine & Corkage
Dining at Les Amis would be incomplete without accompanying wines. The restaurant has a huge wine collection that is reflected by the thickness and weight of the physical wine menu. BYOB is permitted at Les Amis but the corkage fee of $150++ is rather high. They have a one-for-one policy which we usually make use of. Buy a bottle from the restaurant and bring one from home corkage-free. But this time they have introduced a new condition. The bottle purchased has to have a minimum price of $200.
We selected a white Burgundy (2017 Meursault, Jean Michel Gaunoux $200) from the wine list. The other wine that we had for our lunch at Les Amis in December 2021 was a 2010 Echezeaux Grand Cru Domain Francois Lamarche (BYO). The Burgundy wines were light and pleasant. They went well with the food that we had that day, including the cheese.
Bread and Butter Issues
A good selection of bread was presented to us on a trolley. Sensing our indecisiveness, the kind server offered to organise a basket of one of each type for us to share. That was a quick and effective solution.
The Snacks
Three types of snacks were served at the start of the meal. I cannot remember their details but they were all small and varied in flavours. Perfect as a warm up till the first course gets served.
Les Amis Lunch December 2021: First Course
For our first course we selected the Salmon tartare in duo with a special selection of Baeri caviar from Aquitaine (picture above) and the Terrine of Foie gras in a balanced harmony of black truffle (picture below). Both were delicious foods that were best eaten with the bread provided. Thankfully, the foie gras was not too heavy in the liver taste.
The Second Course
We both selected the Slow roasted scallop from the coast of Erquy with extra virgin olive oil sauce for our second course. Its light and delicate taste was a contrast from the strong flavours of the preceding dishes.
Les Amis Lunch Review : Main Course
Our main courses at our Les Amis lunch were Roasted Challans duck breast from Vendée with ginger-caramel pear (picture above) and Wild salmon from Isigny cooked in its own skin & served with civet sauce (picture below). The duck was the more predictable dish. The piece of duck was perfectly cooked. Its strong flavour was balanced out by the sweetness of the pear. The salmon in civet sauce was more of a surprise. According to our quick google search, civet sauce is made from game. Thankfully, it was not as gamey as its name suggests and eating fish in such a sauce was better than it sounds.
Say “Cheese”!
For desserts we chose the cheese selection and the Dark chocolate soufflé with Bora-Bora vanilla ice cream. It is strange that cheese tends to get listed in the dessert section among sweet food that are so different. We were glad that our server offered to serve us the Fine selection of farm house & artisanal french cheeses from Mons separately from the real desserts. Since we were unfamiliar with the types of cheese, we left it to the expert to compile an assortment. We were happy with his recommendation of six types different textures and tastes.
Desserts
A slice of dark chocolate tart (picture above) was offered as a pre-dessert. Of course we did not refuse. The Dark chocolate soufflé with Bora-Bora vanilla ice cream was well-made and fluffy.
Some petite fours brought our 3.5 hour Les Amis lunch to a sweet end. The service was top notch which made the entire experience of this expensive 3 Michelin star lunch very enjoyable.
