Seng Coffee Bar is a new cafe in an old building along Changi Road. Some aspects like the cafe menu and modern decor were predictable. But the creative latte from the talented barista was a pleasant surprise.
Like many parts of the East of Singapore such as Katong and Joo Chiat, the Bedok – Kembangan area has also seen its fair share of new cafes and eateries. One of the latest that we decide to check out is Seng Coffee Bar. It is a modern cafe which looks out of place in the very old, weathered building that it lives in. But therein lies the appeal of new hip cafes. The more unlikely the locale – the more interesting it becomes.
New Seng Coffee Bar along Changi Road
Once inside the new Seng Coffee Bar, the cafe has the look and feel of a modern coffee bar. We could well be in a Tiong Bahru cafe or a newly opened one in the increasingly trendy Jalan Besar area (read out post TOP Cafes in Lavender – Bendemeer 2022).
One distinctive feature of the cafe is the central service area which provides a spacious working area for the staff, which may explain the pleasant personalities we encountered and their ability to create intricate latte art, which we shall discuss later.
Seng Coffee Bar Menu
Here are some sample screen shots of the online menu. It contains the usual cafe fare such as breakfast food, burgers and pasta items, but the range is probably wider than the average cafe. There is also a decent wine selection.
Food and Beverage
We only had snacks and coffee that day. We selected a croissant with scrambled eggs ($4 + $3) and a slice of Mille Crêpes ($9). Both were nice but not exceptional.
Intricate Latte Art
What was exceptional was the elaborate latte art that the barista produced. We are not sure what creatures they were supposed to be but dog barrister and winged horse came to mind. The coffee was above average in taste but the creative works of art etched in foamed milk made them more enjoyable!
