The chic cafe serving brunch, desserts and coffee in the Bugis precinct is named Mondays, apparently inspired by the day which usually represents “a brand new start of the week, a fresh start to a great week”, but Mondays Cafe is closed on Mondays.
Mondays Cafe
The new cafe in the Bugis-Kampoang Glam area opened at the end of 2022. The website of Mondays says “Mondays usually represent a brand new start of the week, a fresh start to a great week. Building on that, we wanted our café to be warm, comforting and inviting for everyone to chill and dine at”.
The hip cafe has a small, but charming alfresco dining area located out in the corridor space. Inside, the cafe is spacious and boasts a stylish interior decor, with comfortable seating.
The tastefully decorated cafe exudes modern elegance with an atmosphere that is casual and inviting, making the chic Mondays cafe a great spot to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or a light meal.
Mondays Menu
The menu of Mondays is rather unique. It offers canelés (a small French pastry usually flavored with rum and vanilla) made without using alcohol for flavouring, baby Dutch pancakes (also known as German pancakes, typically baked in cast iron skillets), crepes and desserts in skillets. Mains on the menu include Miso Cod, Steak & Eggs and Chili Con Carne Rosti.
Below are random screenshots of the digital menu. The full menu can be viewed online (link at the end of this post).
Brunch at Mondays Cafe
We visited Mondays Cafe on a weekend. Our choice for a light brunch was a Baby Dutch with Scrambled Eggs ($12) and Lasagna($18). We also had black coffee ($4) and white coffee ($5).
The baby Dutch pancake served in a skillet topped with scrambled eggs looked like the ultimate comfort food. The scrambled eggs were soft and creamy, with a light, fluffy consistency. The pancake was soft and spongy with edges crispy. It was a very nice way to enjoy pancakes with eggs.
Mondays’ lasagna was also served in an iron skillet. The lasagna with beef was a rich hearty dish. The noodles layered with beef and a variety of other ingredients such as cheese, tomato sauce, and herbs, had a complex mix of flavours. It was a satisfying dish.
Both the black coffee and white coffee at Mondays cafe were nice and smooth – very palatable.
Perfect spot for chasing away the Monday blues
The owners of Mondays cafe wanted it to be “warm, comforting and inviting for everyone”. We think they have succeeded. It offers interesting comfort food and indulgent pastries and desserts with good coffee. The staff is friendly and attentive. The interior is chic with comfortable seating. It is the sort of place that will be perfect for people looking to chase away the Monday blues – too bad Mondays cafe is closed on Mondays.
