Decker Barbecue : Texan BBQ in Singapore

Becker Barbecue restaurant is an option for families with hungry carnivorous teenagers who like grilled meats. Or if the idea of a DIY BBQ at home is too troublesome and messy. This is the place to enjoy the wonders of BBQ food without the sweat. The 30 types of cold beer waiting in the fridge is a bonus!

American BBQ Restaurant in Robertson Quay Singapore

Robertson Quay is quite a popular dining and drinking destination in Singapore. This area has a high number of dining establishments interlaced within among many condominiums along the Singapore River. The result is a nice laid back atmosphere where folks on a night out intermingle with residents walking their dogs or pushing their infants in prams.

There are many f & b places at Robertson Quay with a diverse range of profiles ranging from Japanese izakayas (such as ShunJuu) to casual cafes such as Toby’s Estate. Consistent with its American BBQ theme, Decker Barbecue is possibly the most relaxed restaurant here. The kitchen and service area takes up a small space. The dining tables are basic wooden furniture and are lined up along the pavement. Dress as simply as possible – just like going for a BBQ at someone’s home. There is no aircon and some of the smoke may get into your clothes and hair.

Decker Barbecue Menu

Here are pictures of the Decker Barbecue Menu. There are options to order specific meats. For those dining in groups there is the option of sharing platters. From our experience the platters can be good value for money. We decided on a Family Feast For Four platter ($160) plus a couple of other specific items. This was enough for 7 persons.

Decker Barbecue Sharing Platter

The Decker sharing platter for 4 includes chips with guacamole & salsa, 4 types of meat (wagyu brisket, pulled pork, spare ribs & smoked chicken), choice of 4 sides and choice of 2 desserts. We added pork burnt ends and turkey,

Beef Brisket and Spare Ribs

The highlights of dinner at Decker BBQ were the Spare Ribs (picture above). There were meaty and cooked till the meat easily dropped off the bone. The seasoning was spot on. For a future visit, I might just have the Rib Plate ($37). Four pieces of ribs and a side seems like good value for money.

The next best dish of the day was the beef brisket (picture below). This was a chunk of meat that simply tastes wonderful. It has more texture than the rib but is also very well cooked through. You can eat it with a spoon.

Turkey, Pork, Chicken and Burnt Ends

The turkey, roast chicken and pulled pork were ok but not memorable. The pork belly burnt ends (picture below, right) deserves special mention. They were very tasty. The seasoning was good and the charring was just right. This is food which can go very well with plain rice.

Sides and Dessert

Our side dishes were baked beans, corn bread, kale salad and mac & cheese. They were generally ok. The cornbread was the best of the sides.

Our desserts were Nutella bread pudding (picture below, right) and Banana Pudding (left below). This was a case where you can judge a book by its cover. The Nutella was a better choice than the banana.

A Singapore BBQ dinner at Decker Barbecue is not exactly cheap considering that we were eating outdoors along the pavement. But this is still a prime Robertson Quay Singapore location. We thought that the portion size and food quality justified the pricing. For me, having food barbecued, cooked just right and served to us beats trying to do this at home.
