Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo at Tangs. Best Laksa in Orchard Road?

Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo is one of the many stalls operating at Tangs department store at Orchard. This is a small food court where a few gems can be found. Koo Kee Laksa YTF is one of them. It is possibly one of the best laksa in Orchard Road. And still at an affordable price.

According to its website, “Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo Mee is a brand under Gao Ji Food that has won the hearts of customers of all ages and from all walks of life since 1954”. Apparently, it has retained the tradition of selling its signature Yong Tau Foo in a standard set of 5 pieces. With that simple formula, they have expanded across Singapore. There are now more than 20 Koo Kee outlets in Singapore. From Northpoint to Jurong Point, Chinatown to Clementi the five piece YTF is accessible.

Some soup items are available as well such as old cucumber soup with pork ribs and watercress soup.

Our selection of the day was the Koo Kee set meal ($7.80) and laksa yong tau foo ($6.20).

Best Laksa in Orchard Road?

It has been a long time since we last ate Koo Kee laksa yong tau foo. We were reminded of how good it tasted. The noodles and yong tau foo items are similar to the usual soup version of yong tow foo. What was amazing was how the laksa broth made them taste even better. The laksa soup was rather fiery, but in a rich and complex way. This is not a laksa for chilli beginners but once the taste sinks in, the taste was almost addictive. At $6.20, we can’t think of a better bowl of laksa in Orchard Road.

The Koo Kee YTF at Tangs Plaza is no different from that at any of their 20 over stalls in Singapore. They have good consistency geographically and over the years. The “Q” chewy texture of the noodles is still the same.

As is the taste and mouthfeel of the yong tau foo – keep all along at 5 pieces. Chilli and sweet sauce is available to be applied as desired.

As part of the set meal the Koo Kee YTF was also served with some kang kong vegetables. Some greens to make us feel less guilty about the carbo-laden meal at Tangs Plaza.
