Zaffron Kitchen East Coast is an Indian restaurant in the East of Singapore. Our generous host ordered many nice dishes for lunch that day. Our favourites were the biryani items.
Zaffron Kitchen East Coast
Zaffron Kitchen is described as …” a multi-award winning North Indian restaurant. Marrying cosmopolitan modern settings with the best of North Indian cuisine…”. They have three branches in Singapore – East Coast Road, Star Vista, and Great World. The East Coast outlet is on the ground floor of a small building along East Coast Road, just after the junction with Joo Chiat Road. This was our first visit here. We used to visit the Zaffron Kitchen Westgate outlet, but that has since been shut.
Zaffron Kitchen Menu
There is a wide range of Northern Indian food available at Zaffron Kitchen East Coast. Set lunch options are available for lunch on weekdays. Here are pictures of sample portions of the Zaffron Kitchen East Coast menu. A full menu can be viewed online. Our host selected a good spread of food. I am not sure of some of the items that arrived at the table, but will try my best to identify and describe them.
Non-Spicy Food
Some of my fellow diners included children and adults who prefer their food non-spicy. Fortunately for them, there are such options at Zaffron Kitchen.
The chicken tikka burger ($17 picture above) and butter chicken with plain naan. Received good responses from the non-spicy corner of the table. Chicken cooked in a rich tomato, cashew nuts, butter flavoured gravy which provided a great dip for the naan.
Also non-spicy, was the chicken salad. This was also welcomed by the spicy food diners as it provided a palate cleaning function.
Zaffron Tandoori Platter
The most impressive dish of the day was the tandoori platter ($52). It is described to contain Malai Kebab, Chicken Tikka, Mutton Seekh Kebab, Murg Pudina and Fish Tikka. We were all served a combination of the items. I found them all enjoyable whether eaten with the gravy provided or by themselves.
Biryani at Zaffron Kitchen East Coast
What impressed us most at Zaffron East Coast were the biryani dishes. The lamb shank biryani ($35.90) features Australian lamb that had “fall-off-the-bone” softeness. There is enough meat here for two persons.
Biryani in an ‘Egg’
The other type of biryani was served in a dough ‘egg’, the size of a large ostrich egg.
The layer of dough was cut open to reveal a bowl of chicken biryani. Pieces of chicken and a whole egg was embedded in basmati rice. The aroma and taste will make you want to eat it.
Overall the food at Zaffron Kitchen East Coast was very good. Some of the drinks available include teh tarik and teh halia (pic below).
