Hello Arigato Bukit Timah – New Cafe For Sando & Coffee

Hello Arigato Bukit Timah is the newest Hello Arigato cafe in Singapore. Their other outlets are at Joo Chiat, Everton Park and Upper Thomson. We stopped by the sleek new cafe along Bukit Timah Road (the stretch between Farrer Road and Coronation Plaza).

New Bukit Timah Cafe for Sando and Coffee

According to the cafe website, the story of Hello Arigato began with a group of boys (now men) from diverse backgrounds. Their collective idea: to bring quality asian comfort food into the lives of people.

This being our first visit to a Hello Arigato cafe we were not sure what to expect. Sadly there was no Mr Roboto at the cafe. Instead, we found a modern, minimalist kind of cafe. There is a small indoor dining space on the ground floor. I believe there is more room upstairs which is open on weekends. In the meantime there are outdoor seating just outside Hello Arigato Bukit Timah. These are nice seats if the weather is not too hot or wet.

Here are pictures of the online menu. The food items are mostly sandos and pasta with a few side dishes. We decided on a Tamago Sando ($14), Chicken Tatsu Sando ($16), Crispy Brussels Sprouts ($14), Matcha Latte ($6) and White Coffee ($5.5)

Our Simple Lunch

We thought that the best dish of the day was the crispy brussels sprouts. Grilled or deep-fried till very crisp, the brussels sprouts starter was a nice dish to snack on while waiting for the other food to arrive. The combined seasoning of Japanese garlic soy glaze, sour cream and fried shallots transformed the simple vegetable into a tasty dish.

Our two sandos were more predictable. The chicken katsu sando had slices of fried chicken and cabbage between the bread. With a thickness of about 1 cm, the chicken felt substantial yet was light enough to be eaten easily as part of the sandwich.

The tamago sando featured an ajitama egg (boiled egg with a soft core like those used in ramen) cut open on full display. Encasing the egg was a generous amount of Japanese mayo. The egg was nicely cooked till the yolk was at a perfect degree of softness. But we were less enthusiastic about the mayo. It was also quite a messy sando to handle.

The matcha and coffee were ok but not memorable.
