Bonchon Singapore – Affordable Korean Restaurant at Orchard Road

Bonchon Singapore is a Korean Restaurant at Wisma Atria Orchard Road. With dining out so expensive these days, we were glad to see the reasonably priced food options here in the heart of the most expensive city in the world.

Forget the Singapore location for a moment. The decor looks like one of those places they end up going for food and drinks in Korean dramas? No-frills decor, basic furniture with canteen-style metal chairs and small tubs lined with plastic for discarded bones. This restaurant looks the part and enjoys a prime location – level 1 of Wisma Atria.

Affordable Korean Food at Orchard Road

Our lunch started with the usual side dishes (ban chan). The ban chan at Bonchon were the smallest and the most basic that we have seen. It was not a good start to our meal, but it got better after that.

Bonchon Singapore Set Lunch

The set lunch covers a main course, a drink and side dish. We selected two types of mains – bibimbap chicken (picture above) and cutlet bap ($15.50 each). Both were decent dishes.We like the vegetables that were served with the food. The portion was also substantial. The cutlet bap in particular was good value for money as the piece of fried chicken was large.

Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup

Korean Chicken Ginseng Soup (samgyetang) is also a dish we see quite often on the tables of restaurant scenes in K drama. The Bonchon ginseng chicken soup ($29.90) was nicely presented in a hotpot, kept simmering atop a gas stove. It was a small chicken, good for sharing between two diners. Cooked with red dates and other herbs, the ginseng taste was gentle. This would be a good dish to savour on a cold winter day in Korean. But in Singapore, it was nice to enjoy it in the coolness of the mall which was quiet on a weekday afternoon.
