Elfuego is a dining concept by local western food chain COLLIN’S. COLLIN’S is a well known local chain serving affordable Western food with locations all over Singapore – including places like Mandai Wildlife West and Changi Airport Terminal 3, as well as outlets in malls like Paya Lebar Quarter and Westgate. Elfuego and COLLIN’S can be likened to the Lexus-Toyota equivalent, with Elfuego designed to provide a more luxurious and deluxe experience.

There are also sharing plates like Charcoal Grilled Japanese Squid, Pot Roasted Chicken Casserole and Black Angus Tomahawk Steak.

Lunch at Elfuego

We visited Elfuego by COLLIN’S at Jewel Changi Airport for lunch recently. The restaurant does not have the fine dining ambience; instead, it feels more like an upscale cafe. Fortunately, the menu prices are also more in line with what you might expect at an upscale cafe rather than a high-end restaurant.

The friendly staff did go through the “still or sparkling water routine”. When we said we wanted just plain water, we were politely informed that the restaurant was only serving “Sustainable Premium Water” at $5.

We ordered the Beef Striploin ($33) and the Pan-Roasted Barramundi ($28) from the a la carte menu.

The Beef Striploin with jus was simply presented and was served with mushroom and mesclun salad. The beef was tender and juicy.

The Pan-Roasted Barramundi was served on a bed of mashed potato and creamed leek. The fish was delicately cooked to maintain its moist and flaky texture.

Both dishes were nice but not particularly special or memorable. The portion size was quite generous.

Nice but not exceptional

On the whole, we had a pleasant lunch in an inviting setting. The service was good and the prices were reasonable. However, there was nothing so exceptional about Elfuego, other than serving only “Sustainable Premium Water,” that we would choose to dine at Elfuego instead of at a regular COLLIN’S restaurant. For most people, a Toyota is good enough and a more sensible choice than a Lexus.
