Kam’s Roast Goose HK is a one Michelin star restaurant in the Hong Kong Michelin Guide. This is one of the “must try” places that come to mind when visiting Hong Kong. It is popular with locals and foreigners, and so we faced a long queue outside the restaurant.
KAM’s Roast Goose HK
According to the HK Michelin Guide, the Kams have been famous for their roast goose for more than 30 years and this shop was opened by the third generation. It seems from Kam’s website that the third generation started Kam’s HK to commemorate their grandfather, who had started Yung Kee, another famous restaurant in Hong Kong, which also serves delicious roast goose. They have certainly done a good job as seen by the One Michelin star status and their expansion into Singapore where they have a few outlets.
KAM’s Roast Goose HK is located along Hennessy Road, a major thoroughfare that cuts through the Wan Chai district. The restaurant is small but comfortable. In terms of comfort, they are midway between other famous roast duck places in Hong Kong such as Yat Lok which is very cramped and noisy and Yung Kee which is a full service Chinese restaurant and posh by comparison.
We were there around 2 pm on a weekday and there was a long queue. We popped in to look at the interior and to enquire about waiting time. The bad news was that the waiting would be long but the good news was that a takeaway order can be done within 5 minutes. We opted to have a roast goose takeaway.
Kam’s Roast Goose Hong Kong Menu (Takeaway)
Here is a picture of the Kam’s Roast Goose HK takeout menu. The price of a whole Kam’s roast goose is HK$600. We ordered half a goose which costs HK$330.
True to their word, the goose was prepared in about 5 minutes. It seems like the folks in the queue were all waiting to dine in which is probably the best way to eat a freshly roasted goose. Our next challenge was to find a place to eat it before it gets cold.
T.W.I.G. Cafe
We wondered around the area to find a suitable place which was comfortable and friendly enough to accommodate “outside food”. After a few tries we succeeded at this cute little cafe at Swatow Street (@t.w.i.g.hk). The kind owner offered us a comfortable outdoor sofa to eat our goose. Of course we also ordered some drinks from the cafe.
Best Roast Goose HK?
Kam’s Roast Goose HK is a candidate for best roast goose in Hong Kong. We can see why. The meat was juicy and flavourful. The skin was not very crisp but good enough, especially when it had spent 15 minutes in a box.
Adding the gravy provided and eating Kam’s Roast Goose HK with our hands on a chilly Hong Kong afternoon in Wan Chai is not something we do everyday and it was a memorable experience. Finishing off the snack with coffee from T.W.I.G. Cafe was the icing on the cake. This would be our preferred way to eat roast goose in the future.
