Yat Lok Roast Goose (一樂燒鵝) is the star attraction of this crowded and quaint little restaurant in Central, Hong Kong. It is a One Michelin Star restaurant that is often said to serve the best roast goose in Hong Kong. There are other contenders for this title, such as Yung Kee and Kam’s Roast which we also visited on this trip.
One Michelin Roast Goose Restaurant in Central, HK
We had been warned about the long queues at Yat Lok that some diners had to endure to get their roast goose. We totally avoided a queue by going in the mid-afternoon. There was no queue and the restaurant looked full. But we were waved in and shown to a table occupied by two different dining groups. There were two empty seats in between them.
Yat Lok is an eat-and-leave kind of place, Be prepared to share tables and be squeezed into tight spots. Sometimes at places like this, service can be poor. Fortunately that was not the case here. Not exactly SQ cabin crew service standard, but business-like and courteous enough for us.
Here you can see some of our dining companions. Those at our table were all tourists. My guesstimate was that many of the diners in the restaurant were visitors to Hong Kong.
Yat Lok Roast Goose Restaurant Menu
In addition to roast goose, there are other types of roast meats on the menu. These can be paired with rice or noodles. Here are pictures of the Yat Lok Roast Goose menu with prices shown. For this visit we decided to have a “lower quarter goose with leg” (HK$220) and noodle soup (HK$20).
Roast Goose and Noodles
We were happy with our choice of food. The quantity of the noodles and a quarter of a goose was perfect for a snack for two persons in between lunch and dinner.
The noodle was lovely, very distinctively Hong Kong with the al dente “Q” texture and the simple yet flavouru; soup. We would be happy to eat this noodle by itself at any time.
The goose was good but not as good as we remember it to be from a previous visit some years ago. We found some parts of the meat to be tough and not as juicy as we would have liked. There are many roast goose options in Hong Kong. On this trip to Hong Kong in early 2024, we tried three. Of these, we thought that the Kam’s roast goose was the best. We should seek out others on a next trip.
Our bill was short and sweet. HK$240 for a one Michelin Star in Hong Kong. Take this and pay at the cashier.
