Tomy & Co Paris is an understated one Michelin star restaurant in the seventh arrondissement. Its restaurant interior is nicely appointed but not ornate. The dishes were plated attractively but without excessive decorations. A three-course lunch costs 78 euro – not cheap but certainly not exorbitant. Mind you, unlike in Singapore, the prices (and often at other Paris restaurants we visited) include taxes and service.
One Michelin Star Restaurant Near Eiffel Tower
There are many Paris photo spots where one can have a good view of the Eiffel Tower. For us, one of the best spots is the junction of Rue Saint Dominique and Boulevard de la Tour-Maubourg – with the Le Recrutement cafe in the foreground and the Eiffel Tower at the back.
Tomy & Co Paris is located on a quiet side street which is a stone’s throw from the above photo spot. The restaurant is helmed by Cambodian-born chef, Tomy Gousset, who had worked in some famous restaurants (including the legendary Taillevent in Paris) before starting his own.
Tomy & Co Paris Menu
Here is a picture of the Tomy & Co lunch menu We selected the 3-course lunch priced at 78 euros. Four choices are available for each of the three lunch courses. A tasting menu in 6 courses for 100 euros look like even better value for money. But we stuck to the more affordable one as we had Miss Eiffel Tower waiting for us.
The champagne page of the wine list was interesting with a wide range of French sparkling wine and champagne labels that we seldom come across in Singapore. In line with the affordable theme of this lunch we chose the first on the list – Domain M. Pfister Blanc de Blancs AOP Cremant d’Alsace (70 euros).
First Course Appetisers
Our choices for the first course were fried gnocchi (+ 5 euro) and white asparagus. Fried gnocchi with parmesan, morels in yellow wine & bear garlic combine to produce a rich complex dish. Not a beautiful dish in terms of looks but satisfying in flavours.
In contrast, the white asparagus, trout eggs, mustard seeds and orange dressing was a very attractive dish. White asparagus was in season and we ate it a few times on this trip. But the ones served here were some of the nicest. Fat and juicy, they were enhanced by the garnishes.
Lunch at Tomy & Co Paris: Main Courses
Main courses that we selected were buckwheat encrusted sea bream and chives, barigoule, artichokes and shitakés and John Dory, spinach butters / curry / black garlic, leeks & creamy avocados (+4 euro).
The buckwheat encrusted sea bream was hidden below the blanket of buckwheat. The appearance was beautified with some white flowers. With so many other ingredients involved, it was a dish which was multi-dimensional – in taste and in texture. The other main course – John Dory (picture below) was almost zen by comparison. Here they had chosen to leave the fish lightly flavoured, allowing the freshness of the fish speak for itself.
Desserts
Rhubarb ice cream crispy and soft apples with vanilla sponge cake was an elegant, light tasting dessert.
Dark chocolate ganache and pistachio ice cream was a very good. We were happy that the choices in the menu were very different, allowing us to try out contrasting concepts throughout the meal.
Petit fours were served at the end of our meal at Tomy & Co Paris restaurant. It had a relaxed atmosphere and service was professional and friendly.
