Au Chocolat (Closed)

Au Chocolat is a French-themed store at the corner of Level 1 Marina Bay Sands. It sells candies, gelato, cakes and pastries, and has a sit down bistro with all day dining menu. The interior decoration is a mix of  childlike wonderland and Parisian chic cafe. The ceiling is nicely decorated with fantasy murals and a model train set which sits on a track hanging from the ceiling.

The menu is extensive – the usual breakfast stuff; truffle fries, plum powder tossed sweet potato fries, mushroom bites and other nibbles; mains like boeuf bourguignon, cottage pie, crab cake and pasta; and of course sweets like the Au Chocolat tower cake, macaron burger and caramel apple skillet. A key feature is the incorporation of chocolate into savoury dishes – like salad with dark chocolate balsamic vinaigrette and the Au Chocolat benedict, which is poached eggs with sauce infused with red wine & dark chocolate.

We ordered the classic burger ($20) and the Au Chocolat benedict ($18). They arrived in generous portions and the poached eggs looked pretty.  They were delicious too. We especially liked the potato fries that came with the burger – crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Hot beverages start from $6.

Au Chocolat is a fairly affordable place in Marina Bay Sands with a nice relaxed atmosphere.  Add to it the wide array of food items offered, we would be making more visits. Currently, they have a $19.90++ 2 course Executive Set Lunch promotion, which seems like good value.

Tea at Tart Blanc (Outlet Closed)

Tart Blanc

Tart Blanc is a small pastry cafe in Millenia Walk specializing, as you can guess from its name, Tarts. The “Blanc” is reflected in its clean, white and elegant interior design. It has an inviting and cosy feel with only 4 tables. The staff do make you feel welcomed without making too much fuss.

Tart Blanc

The tarts in the display cabinet are really attractive – they look like edible art pieces; colourful and pretty. Their tarts come in 3 sizes, mini 1.25 inch, regular 3 inch and large 7 inch. There are Pumpkin crack tart (a brown sugar Pecan base top with creamy and smooth pumpkin pate), lime passionfruit tart (which is a lime mousse with a passionfruit center sitting on a coconut white chocolate base), banana silk, rum & eve, pistachio chocolate, blueberry lavender, espresso caramel and many more interesting varieties. We tried the Eden tart – made with caramelized apples, grapefruit jam and champagne mousse. It tastes as good as it looks. A tart costs about $7 and coffee and tea is at about $5 per cup. They have a tea time promotion – tea with any tart for $10.

Tart Blanc

They also have cookies, macarons, chocolate truffles as well as a savoury selection of sandwiches, pitas and wraps like pulled pork sandwiches and tandori chicken pitas. They have a lunch promotion at $9.90 for meal and drink or $13.50 for meal, drink and soup.

Tart Blanc

It is a good place to sit down for a tea break. We will definitely be returning to try other tarts they offer.
