Springleaf Prata Place is a roti prata restaurant that has five outlets all over Singapore – Springleaf Prata Sunset Way (Clementi) is one of them. Do not be fooled by the address and the name. This outlet has an address on Clementi Street 12, but it is not in the usual Clementi area, but located along Sunset Way. Despite the name, Springleaf Prata Place serves more than just prata, there are also items like thosai, noodles, murtabak, bryani etc on the menu. And the variety of each is very wide. Which is why we ended up ordering a posh or ‘atas’ version of the humble roti prata.
Jypsy Martin Road is a new cafe concept by PS Cafe. 38 Martin Road (near Mohamed Sultan) was formerly occupied by another member of the PS Cafe group – Chopsuey. They have transformed the space into a casual Japanese restaurant. In keeping with their ability to churn out one stylish cafe after another in Singapore, the new restaurant Jypsy PS Cafe is another lovely place that looks like no other in Singapore. The place is less lavish and more relaxed but it is certainly no “gypsy”.
Cheng’s @ 27 coffeeshop in Tiong Bahru looks very different from the typical zhi char coffeeshop in Singapore. It is bright and very clean. According to a Straits Times article :25 years and counting: Hainanese coffeeshop Cheng’s 27, the Cheng family regularly receives generous offers to buy over the well positioned corner coffeeshop, but they are not selling. The business has operated in this location since 1989. Previously known as Cheng’s Delicacies, a new generation of Chengs had taken over this business and renamed it Cheng’s 27.
