The Guild Singapore, new Keong Saik bar and restaurant by HK craft brewery

When was the last time you saw a spittoon in service in Singapore? For us it was probably in the 70s hidden under a well-used marble-topped table in a traditional coffee shop. So it was a surprise to see this previously disgusting thing in full display outside The Guild Singapore. This new Keong Saik Road bar and restaurant is a collaboration by “Hong Kong’s highest rated and largest independent craft brewery”,  Young Master Brewery and Chef Vinny Lauria.

Lunch at new restaurant Orient Palace, Furama Riverside Hotel Annex

Orient Palace Furama

Orient Palace (禧家) is a new restaurant at the Furama Riverside Hotel, Singapore. If the name of hotel sounds unfamiliar, you are not alone. We had to do some research to discover that it is the former Apollo Hotel along Havelock Road. The short cylindrical building that used to house karaoke places is known as the Annex Block.   The Orient Palace is located on the ground floor of this Annex Block. According to their website, Orient Palace is “Singapore’s first premium contemporary dining and entertainment hub”.

Kok Sen Restaurant – Michelin Bib Gourmand authentic Singapore ‘local’ food

Kok Sen Restaurant is a Singapore zi char outfit that was named a Singapore Bib Gourmand restaurant in the 2016 and 2017 editions of the Singapore Michelin Guide.  Located in the Keong Saik dining enclave, the humble Kok Sen restaurant ticks all the boxes of what makes a good local restaurant in Singapore – traditional coffee shop atmosphere, good food, friendly service and fairly priced. Being air-conditioned is a bonus.
