Where to Eat this Weekend – May 2018

There are many interesting places to visit and things to do in Singapore during the  weekends in May 2018. The Hari Raya Raya bazaar and light-up on 12 May 2018 will be at the new  Wisma Geylang Serai. The Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar will run from 16 May to mid June 2018. Other events to look out for in May will include Concerts in Singapore Botanic Gardens (including World Music at the Garden 19 May); Chinese Dance Fiesta 2018 (18 – 26 May 2018); Cold Storage Kids Run (20 May 2018); DBS Marina Regatta 2018 (26 & 27 May); Pesta Ubin (26 & 27 May); and ArtBox Singapore (25 May – 3 Jun 2018). Don’t forget that Mother’s Day is on 13 May. Weekends are also great for leisurely meals and for travelling a little further to explore eating places. Caffe Fernet – new cafe on the waterfront with a view of MBS

Caffe Fernet - Weekend Brunch Places

Caffe Fernet is essentially a glass box on a pier at the Singapore Customs House which is near Fullerton One. You can imagine the great views that this new cafe has of the Marina Bay waterfront and Marina Bay Sands (MBS). But you don’t have to because we will show you the pictures of the view. According to the Cafe Fernet website, this is what you can expect : ” Lighter and brighter Italian-inspired dishes that will have you hooked from the get-go …”.  We were there for brunch recently.

Coffee and light meal at Hangar Cafe on Arab Street

Running a food and beverage business in Singapore is not for the faint hearted. According to a SPRING Singapore website, 28% of F&B business are replaced every year. In addition to challenges like high rents and labour shortages there is also this other factor that intrigues us – the unpredictability of consumer tastes. We have seen beautiful restaurants struggle to draw in the diners. On the other hand, there are places where there is no decor to speak of and yet the crowds just keep on flowing in. The Hangar Cafe on Arab Street belongs to the latter category.
